ipods sound and work better than any pocketpc, and i love my x51v. the simple truth is that the iPod was created purley for music. in the same way that the calendar and the notes system is comical when compared to the dell.

However this is not to say the dell is a bad music player because it isn't. If you have a MCE PC you can sync shows without much hassle, and WMP can do alot of work for you when it comes to converting and syncing your music.

I own three devices which can play music, iPod, Dell x51v and a Sony P910i.
If i was gonna go on a train trip, or a long walk i would use the iPod, with the remote control and my music library it's a no brainer.
If i was at work, or just waiting i would use the dell to play music and prehaps surf the net or check my emails at the same time.
if im out and about (up town) or without the two above, then i would use my P910i, as i always carry my P910i headphones in my coat pocket.

All of the devices work really well, and play music to a quality i am happy with.

If you are happy with 1GB / 2GB of music, and already own a pocket pc then perhaps stick with the PPC and see how you get on. If you don't find it comfortable then grab an iPod :D.

There is absolutely no way that WMA is CD Quality at 64Kb/s. And MP3 is not CD Quality at 192Kb/s either. And OGG is not CD Quality at 96Kb/s. There's a good reason that these are all referred to as 'lossy' formats.

But aside from that you completely neglect the fact that the iPod (and the Axim) can play MPEG-4 AAC audio, which is typically (along with WMA) also superior to MP3. So it also renders your 1GB vs. 1GB argument void too.

I do not need all that storage of music for gym and jogging; physical dimension and weight are more important to me.
Of course, iPod nano is much smaller, but the thing is that when you're out of the house 14 hours or so... hours which include public transportation, school, work, in between chill time, study time AND the gym... having the 60 gig iPod video makes total sense. Especially when you are using a laptop and would rather have a 60 gig iPod rather than taking up all the laptop's hdd space OR have a gazillion CDs in disarray with all your music.

And the size isn't so bad when you have a bag with you at all times other than at the gym... and you use the sports case at the gym.

As said many times, when it comes to gadgets, what your needs are is the MOST important. I don't think all people will ever agree on the same thing. :)

I think that's a much better way of putting it than my response was :approve:

To add to the answer earlier about applications that, ahem... give your PDA that iPOD feel: I had a program called Simple Tunes that used to be loaded into my old iPAQ 2210. It captured the iPOD feel almost perfectly.

You turn the wheel and select to point at folders, then it will play the contents of that folder - without having to generate play lists or anything. Gloriously unsophisticated and basic (therefore Apple users will love it).

There`s an in-depth`ish review here, with screenshots. http://www.pocketnow.com/mobile.php?...reviews&id=385

No sleight of the program and its aims, but I`ve never bothered to load it up on my X50v. Obviously I must like a bit of complexity (sophistication) in my life.
