How do I turn it on?

Hello, I just received my Axim X50 in the mail today. I purchased it used off ebay.

It didn't come with a cradle, so I purchased a sync cable. I just plugged it in to the computer. The orange light on the top (I'm guessing on the power button) lights up, however I cannot turn the unit on. I've tried pressing all the buttons, the lock button on the side is off, and I am afraid I received a dead unit?

Do I need active sync to turn it on? Sorry, I'm a newbie to PDA's...

You have a very flat battery. without an ac adaptor it's going to take a very long time to charge (if at all)

oh and it won't charge if it's turned on

Thank you! I was doing some searching and found some similar threads. I have a 3-in-1 cable that can be used as a sync cable, AC charger, or car charger. You're telling me you cannot use it while it's charging?

Well I know the X50V can't run and charge off the usb port at the same time, and I'm pretty sure the X50 won't either. So I'd let it do its thing for a few hours.

Some devices can't charge from flat via usb, not sure if that's true for the X50, but I guess we're about to find out

Well, the first thing you do is talk sweetly to it. Oh wait. Wrong turn on. Sorry. Oops. My bad.

Did you hold the power button for 3 seconds?

Also, make sure the slide button (lock button) on the side doesn't show any red. In the up (red) position all of the buttons are locked and the unit won't respond to any of them. In the down (black) position the buttons are active. NOTE: The on/off button has two responses: a quick click is on/off, a longer press is screen bright/dim. Don't hold the button down too long or the screen brightness function will kick in.

From a completely off state you need to hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn it on. From standby, a quick click turns it on.

I was able to get the unit to power on. I checked the battery status and it was at 32% and charging. I turned on the wi-fi for kicks and giggles, and after unsuccessfully getting the wi-fi to work - it auto-powered down after 5 minutes. I checked the battery setting and it said 24%. I hope the battery doesn't discharge that quickly when it's fully charged. I may be having to purchase a new battery though.

Also, the back-up battery is dead. If I leave RAM free and place my programs in ROM - will they erase if the battery dies?
