Question Anyone using OBD-Gauge, VAG-Check or other serial car diagnostics?

I have this OBD-II to RS-232 car diagnostisc adaptor: http://www.impextrom.com/tienda_prod...enda=3&id=2666

And I made my own serial cable by adding all RS232 lines to my Dell VGA cable adaptor, accordingly to following pinout: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/attac...achmentid=6461

I tried it with my X51V using this two free applications: Vag-Check and OBD Gauge.

First one seems to accept OBD-II adapter through COM1 but after a long serial parameter search it does not get "connected".

OBD Gauge is all the time "Initializing...".

It seems to be a serial handshaking problem, most of times it is enogth using TX/RX/GND, but I do not know how is expected to be used RTS/CTS/DTR/DSR in this case.

I got OBDGauge to work with my Axim X51v. I had to use a null-modem with the serial adapter though. Also I had to set the Baud to 19200.

Thank you for your answer.

Did you use Dell serial adaptor?, I know it has an integrated circuit inside to adapt Axim TTL signal levels to standar RS232. I am using a self made adaptor.

If you had to set baud rate, you also had to change INTERFACE to Multiplex instead of default ELM at Preferences menu. What did you set for the rest of Multiplex parameters (Address and Protocol)?

Thank you againg, it helps me a lot.

I'm using this adapter : http://www.gomadic.com/dell-axim-x50...ata-cable.html

I have the Multiplex connector so that's why I use it on the Preference menu. (the info on the Multiplex connector is available on the OBDgauge website). The address is 25 (I guess that's the usual default) and the Protocol is VPW. Since my car is a GM Model that's the one I use. The protocol will change depending on your car type. For example if it's a Ford you would use PWM.
