Playback of audio/video stored on desktop pc?

Hi, I've done a search and probably missed a post explaining this, but as I'm new here I'll ask none the less and take any bashing I get for not searching lol :rolling:

So, I have a new X51V all working wireless on home network, Internet is fine as is Resco explorer which allows me to see files that are on my desktop PC, I can copy the files to my X51v and they play but if I try to open/listen to most files on the other PC, I cannot.... for wmv files it says 'The parameter is incorrect' or for jpgs 'unable to load file'

All work fine if I copy to my Axim..... so is this just how it works? - the files all work fine on the PC and when copied to the X51v but I had hoped I could leave all my music on the desktop PC and listen to the music 'walkman style' on my PDA....

I am sure I'm asking a daft question but any clues most appreciated.....

I use music and video playback this way without problems - but I'm not using Windows Media Player.
Instead I use TCPMP player (freeware) with a subtitle plugin among many other interesting plugins. It plays movies, music videos and music files in many different codecs. There is even an AAC codec also as a plugin.
