Ghost in the machine?

Quite some time ago I downgraded (for the second and quite possibly last time ) my X50v from WM5 back to WM2003SE.

There seems to be one lingering problem, in that periodically (rough guess 10 minutes, but I don't know if it's consistent) the Axim will turn itself on for maybe 30-60 seconds, then turn itself off. It's not just turning the backlight off with the timer, it's turning off as if I had pressed the power button.

This is when it is off the cradle.

Now I don't recall that behavior under WM2003SE prior to the upgrade, but I could be wrong about that .

Can anyone comment on whether this is normal behavior for a factory-fresh WM2003SE installation? If it is not normal, any suggestions on how to make it stop?

After running the downgrade utility and experiencing this problem, I re-flashed WM2003SE ROM A05. I have re-flashed the same ROM at least twice, the most recent time while connected to a new PC that has Activesync 3.8 on it (just in case Activesync 4.1 on the old PC was clobbering something on the Axim that doesn't get replaced during the re-flash and associated hard resets).

BTW I don't think Activesync is starting up by itself like it does on WM5, so the fake server trick doesn't apply here (I think).

The main irritation with this is that if it is in the slip case (the one that came with the Axim), there is enough pressure on the screen that when it turns itself on, it thinks I am trying to open an appointment (depending on the program that was running when I turned it off).

Hi,

I think the "fake server" trick actually would do the trick - also in PPC2003.
The only reason I've seen the "auto turn on" feature is for syncing - also in PPC2003.

Trying it now, thanks. The settings dialogs are a little different from WM5's, but we'll see if that does the trick.

I'm still highly interested in whether anyone else is seeing this under WM2003SE (and whether they have up/downgraded or not). Anyone?

I got an Axim 50v A05 and never upgraded to WM5. So far I haven't seen this problem. I got active synch 3.7 I think?

Thanks Aximconvert, that's a useful datapoint.

The fake server trick did not do the trick - it's still misbehaving. Also the lock button did not help (it powered on anyway). And the slip case is not what is causing it to open appointments in PI - I left it out of the case and when I turned it back on an appointment was open.

It's possessed I tell you :rolling:

I'm considering yet another reflash of A06, but I'm not real hopeful. Nothing changed in the configuration prior to this first happening, so I don't think it's any of the (few) programs I have installed (PI, OCN5, Magic Button, Total Commander, Sprite, TCPMP)

Quick update - I "fixed" this problem by going to WM5 again. Talk about the frying pan and the fire

So far all is smooth (with the usual X50v/WM5 fixes), but it's only been a couple of weeks so things could well change
