Ok.. With pcAnywhere 11.5, everything you do (ie playing files, sounds) happens on the host computer, not the remote (the handheld)
The other solution, which i think would be a better "fit" only takes a few steps..
Promixis has a program called
NetRemote which essentially controls any IR device and media software (WMP, WinAmp, Jriver, iTunes) Cost is about $25-40
When you download NetRemote, you will also get MediaBridge. MediaBridge listens for commands from another other computer (handheld included)
So, you install netremote on your handheld, and install MediaBridge on your host machine. MediaBridge will automatically open the music software that you chose (WMP, Winamp) When start your handheld (via Wifi i would suggest) you'll see all the music, videos, pics, that are on your host machines playlist. ie if you have a playlist lets say called "I hate rush hour traffic" you'd see it on your handheld, and can cue any of the songs to play. The handheld in this fashion is obviously sending data back and forth to your host machine. You can "build" a playlist just based on songs that you chose but I've not found a way to save them.
It's really a lot easier then it sounds..
Also, a nice benefit of using this solution is that you can make NetRemote look however you want. For instance, if you drive a BMW 5 Series, you can make your remote "blend in" to your vehicle, match wood grain, trim, colors.. You get the picture.. Of course creating your own remote involves getting yet another piece of software
You can actually download a trial of all of the above software that runs for a month. You can setup you host machine and install a windows client version of netremote on a seperate computer to test everything (assuming that the host and remote client are networked)
If you have any questions feel free.. I just setup a co-worker of mine with the same solution for his home audio.. I made his 3 Sony 300 CD Jukebokes and Slink-E obsolete... Technology.. yummmm....
Oh yeah JRiver Media Center
