Hmm Windows Media pop up!

Hi everyone,

I'm a new user with (I think) a new question.

Every time I get a reminder on my X51V or every time I turn on the device, the Media player opens right away with a message saying "A storage card was inserted. Do you want to search it for audio and video files?"

Just so you all know, I inserted a new storage card the moment I purchased the thing and have never removed it. Also if I press yes to search.... hoping the message will go away the next time around... it still comes up... If I press No, same thing. :rolling:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does it happen after a soft reset ? Maybe you have Media Player Running in the background and not completely closed ?

Actually, I have been trying to figure out what a "soft reset" is? Does it mean just removing the battery and placing it back again after a few sec?

If that's what a soft reset is... then yes... it still comes on after that. I don't think I have any media open... as I have never played anything in media since I bought it (about a month ago).

What else do you think it may be?

I just received my new x51v last week and after about two days it starting doing the same thing... Then after a few more days it stopped coming up Wierd, huh?

BTW, you perform a "soft reset" by inserting the tip of the stylus in the tiny hole in the back of your x51v and holding it there for about 1 or 2 seconds.

A "hard reset" is done by inserting the tip of the stylus (just like a soft reset) while simultaneously pressing and holding in the power button on the front of the unit.

i get this too while WM is open. Using the "switch bar" program that is in settings, you can see any programs that are running in the back ground. after i use this to close WM, the issue stoped for me, until i open up windows media again that is. A soft reset would also close WM, but the switch bar is much quicker.

simply clicking the X in the corner does not close the application, it just moves it out of view so its running in the background.

Problem seems to be only the CF, not SD

Same problem. I have a 2gb sandisk SD card, and a 512mb sandisk ultra2 CF card. Any time the 51 goes to sleep with MP running in memory, when I wake it back up, it gives me the "A storage card was inserted" message. If I remove the CompactFlash card (but leave in the SD card), it doesn't do it. I wonder if there is a registry tweak somewhere that tells media player not to scan "new" cards?

Also, you don't have to soft reset it to clear MP from memory. just tap Start>Settings>System (tab at bottom)>Memory>Running programs> select MP and hit stop. A few more steps, but less disruptive to the rest of the system.
