I think this is an excellent idea :D

A suggestion: Why not make the text that the user inputs much, much smaller? That way you can type larger texts and still see the keyboard, before you copy/paste it somewhere else. I see no real reson why the text should be that big anyway.

I agree, I might try to have the size user adjustable in a later version. For now the text is large for testing purposes. The next time I edit the file, I'll see about making the font size smaller.

:approve:

As it is now, you can still type a lot, it will just keep scrolling, then you "Select All" to copy it all.

I just tested the keyboard, it works fine and also looks good.
But what I proposed is more difficult and I am afraid it is not possible to do with Flash Player.
I was referring to a transparent keyboard superimposed over program under edition, where you write directly on text under edition.

Think about same Windows native keyboard, with exactly the same behaviour, but keyboard will be fullscreen and transparent.

This way you get the sum of benefits of both type of keyboard (full & partial screen):
  1. You have a big keyboard, like all fullscreen keyboards.
  2. You get direct edition, like partial screen keyboards (Windows native one).

HUGE alpha 0.71 release!!!!

So many new features, check it out...

1. "Gesture" is available! ________ (for bnlsn, thanks)
2. Auto-Copy now is available! ___ (for bnlsn, thanks)
3. Text size is smaller __________ (for Danneman, thanks)

Instructions:

1. For "Gesture," You can capitalize letters by releasing the button outside of the key area.
____a. For "Q" you press "q" then release outside of the "q" area.
____b. For alternate "Backspace" you release outside of "SpaceBar"
____c. For auto-copy you release outside of the "scroll-up" arrow.

2. For auto-copy, you can still use the menu "Select" option OR use the "scroll-up"
arrow gesture!

Also I exchanged the ";" for the ' apostrophe since that is more commonly used.

Give me some feedback on the big release. Thanks!

For Alpha 0.72, I am starting to publish the keyboard with Flash version 7 instead of version 6. This seems to speed up the key entry response. Make sure you have version 7 player installed on your PDA. =)

I also made the "Backspace" key smaller since it is not as necessary with the "SpaceBar" gesture now being available.

Version Alpha 0.8 is out, it's a fairly BIG update.

1. Now the keyed text only fills up 2 lines at the top of the screen unless you go into the Menu and enable text "overlay" if you want the text to cover the keyboard keys.

2. "Clear All Text" option added to the Menu to wipe the text field clean.

3. Other minor related changes are viewable on the menu screen.

BETA 1.0 release! :approve:

Several new features added, I decided to make this the first Beta release since I believe the KB is just about ready for a completed Final version.

1. "Gestures" available on CAPS screen for numbers and symbols.

2. Text input box is now editable! ... You can highlight and copy/cut/paste/delete portions of text easily on the small text input box and large selectable input box. (Remember to use the auto-copy gesture to copy all to the clipboard of course)

3. You can input characters with the PPC system keyboard if you want to "insert" typed text that is before the end of the text string. Place the cursor anywhere in the text box, then type from there.

I've had very little feedback for all of yesterday's improvements. Be sure to give me some feedback on this BETA release if you have any comments. I will be releasing a Final Version soon if there are little or no modifications that need to be done. I will set up a way for you to download this Freeware keyboard easily to your PDA and have a "Donate" button available for any of you who feel that my work deserves that. Thanks!

I agree with other members that the ability to set the level of transparency really helps. The keyboard seems a bit straight to me, a little bit of a bend might be useful. I still don't know if I would use it though, this keyboard or any full screen keyboard...cause I like to see my screen!

Thanks for the comments Locutus. A bend in the keys might help. Anyone else think that would help?

Covering the screen is the point though man! For easy finger/stylus typing. :)

I got you. You gotta excuse me as I'm use to using a stylus way back from using a Palm.

Alright Makuu, I have a solution to the True VGA users!

http://aslnx1.uah.edu/~twhitten/zletter/kbVGA.html

FYI: For those with x51v who want True VGA, use the following:
(THANKS markvan)

EXE install file:
https://www.sharemation.com/markvan/MvRTrueVGAx51v.exe

OR for manual install:
https://www.sharemation.com/markvan/MvRTrueVGAx51v.zip

This makes your view on your AXIM tiny tiny so you see a lot more (great for web browsing, but be ready for tiny text to read).

Stormloader,

Now it works perfect on true VGA. I have a question is there a limitation on the amount of line or character you can type before copying it somewhere.

Scroll up is good, but I think scrolldown is missing.

I will post a review of your keyboard on a french website where I am moderating, so I am interested to know if you will implement a french keyboard. If so I'll get in touch with you to provide you french translation for the settings.

I may put Scrolldown in there. I didn't think it was a big deal to scrolldown since it automatically drops down to the typed text after you scroll up with the arrow button. Are you aware of that?

I don't know if there is a limitation to the amount typed in the text box. If anyone knows of a FLASH limitation, please let me know. For now i'm assuming no limitation.

If you want me to make a French version of the KB, I could try as long as those using the French version are willing to donate some money when i post the KB up for use. I am offering the current QWERTY version free (with optional donations soon) but doing a French version would be outside the scope of my work on this Makuu.

Continue to contact me or post on this thread your ideas and info on what the French version would need. :approve:
