My X51V is being really stupid

It is low on battery, yet, every 1-2 minutes, it wakes up to give me the notification. I press dismiss, and then put it to sleep by pressing the power button.

It then wakes itself up again.

You can put the Axim into "Full Power Off". In "Full Power Off" the Axim will not wake up from notifications.

Confirm this setting:

Settings --> System --> Power --> Power Button --> and make sure "Full Power Off" is clicked

Click "Ok"

Hold Down the Power Button and when you get prompted for "Full Power Off" select "OK".

Note that a "Full Power Off" has the same effect as performaing a soft reset to the OS. When you power back on it starts from the Dell logo and takes a bit to start the OS back up, again, like the system is starting up from a soft reset.

Another option if it is ActiveSync that is causing your problem... you could try ActiveSyncToggleBeta ; you may learn more here: thread:ActiveSync fix

What I do is "Enable AS" before I connect my AXIM to sync it.
I "Disable AS" when and connect it to the PC if I just want to charge the battery.

OK never mind... that was really wierd. I replaced the battery (the one that was in had a full charge, I swear!!) and it finally booted up, except that the time and date were completely wrong...

patience is the word here ...

same thing as you would turn any device on ... give the power button a tap ... takes a couple of sec before you see the dell screen ... again ... patience !!!

and I'm suprise that by you pushing the reset button does nothing !!! ???

That is weird. I've used the "full power off" lots of times and never had any problems powering back on.

I gave it a minute to boot up before I posted. the Dell logo never came up - it stayed with a black screen. a new battery fixed that though, which is wierd because both batteries were freshly charged.

did you do the settings inside too ??

Settings --> System --> Power --> Power Button --> and make sure "Full Power Off" is clicked.

because if you didn't ... all the power button does is to dim the screen ... and who knows ... not fully implemented to usage it was intended to ... ON/OFF

just a thought to cover the bases :)

see post #2 by Eclet ...

so ... after exchanged the new battery ... does it power on properly now after a FULL POWER OFF or not ???
