Bluetooth Capabilities?

Hello all! This is my first post on this cool site!

I just ordered my x51v this past week. I can't wait for it to arrive! I plan on using it primarily for work (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Until then, I have a few questions that I hope some of you can help me with. Being that the 51v is my first PDA ever, and I'm a complete idiot with technology (Bluetooth in particular), I have been trying to read up on the capabilities of the 51v. I read a thread that talked about 51v, Bluetooth, cell phone, and dial up. What is this all about? I currently own a cell phone (Sprint LG PM 325) with Bluetooth capabilities. I thought that the only thing that Bluetooth did was give me wireless to an earpiece and keyboard. Is there some way that I can integrate my phone with this PDA? What are the advantages of having Bluetooth on a PDA? Thanks in advance!

I use my bluetooth for two things: 1. Instead of lugging around my cradle, I use BT to hotsync with my laptop when travelling. Works like a charm. 2. I bought a bluetooth GPS with TomTom5 and use it in my car as a navigation system.

I sometimes use bluetooth to send new wallpaper and ringtones to my phone, but not very often.

Bluetooth is a form of wireless connectivitiy, or a way to connect two device without wires. The first question would be, what is gained by connecting two devices with wires. Then removing the wires with bluetooth.

Specifically between a Cell Phone and an X51v
1) transfer pictures off of your phone with out paying data rates
2) Transfer contact information
3) Transfer Calendar information

Other things you might want to do on the PDA that requires a Cell Phone
1) Access the Internet
2) Use the PDA to dial the phone
3) use the PDA to send SMS throught the Cell phone

Things you can not use a PDA for when connected via bluetooth to your cell phone
1) Talking on the phone.

Specific things that do not work on the X51 or specifically WM5 that may not have anything to do with cell phones.
1) You can not connect a headset to a PDA - Microsoft has decided that you do not need to do that.
2) You can not uese Bluetooth Headphones - That support is not YET(??) available.

I hope this helps.

Thanks gigamanx and benots4 for the great info! All very useful.

One last question: In order to use the Bluetooth from cell phone to PDA to gain access to the internet, I need dial-up access from an internet provider to make it happen, right? (assuming that there is no WiFi in the area).

It depends. Some cell phone providers will allow you to use your minutes to dialup to an ISP, while others will require you to subscribe to their data plan. Check with your cell phone provider first.
