French language AximX51v

I have both a french Axim X51v and an English language Axim X51v. The french one is for my oldest daughter and I use the english one. I bought them both a while back because I got a better deal for two and I thought I would give the 2nd one to my daughter for her birthday. I did and she tells me she wants the english one. Because the exchange period is up, I am stuck with the french one. Can I somehow switch it to english? I could use my software, but I don't know how. She can use the french version, but really wants it in english.

well im not sure if u can do it because its a wm5 thing, and maybe u could sell it and buy an english one buut there must bee someway.

I´ve changed my x51v from English to German. Maybe it will help you:

- First download the latest ROm updates in both languages (in my case Eng and Ger, in you case Fre and Eng)
- rename the target language ROM file (Eng) with the name of the original one (Fre)
- Then start the update which the same lang. as the axim (Fre)
- when the screen that shows you the version of the installed ROM and the update appears, exchange the ROM-file with the renamed one.
- click ok, wait, hardreset, wait. -> everything should be fine.

And ... if this fails, you should still be under warranty ... and you can exchange it for one with an English ROM. :approve:

So, if I try atomphil's trick, there is a chance that I will kill my Axim for good? Has anyone else tried this or something close with success? Has anyone else poached their axim. I really don't want to go the killing it/warranty root as that will cost money for shipping ect... and I was told that Dell might give me a problem for doing an unauthorized language switch.

Anyone help me?

I finally tried Atomphil's trick and Voila! it works! My daughters Axim is now english version A06! There was one scary point when I 1st tried it, it was half way through the update when my computer rebooted for no reason (it has never done this before) and the connection was broken. Thank god I was able to reset and try again and it worked.

I have a x51v in dutch language but in dell site don't have Rom update in dutch, it's possible change to english?

I never saw a dutch version (didn't even know it existed), as far as i know there you should be able to update it with the English rom (http://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/R114959.EXE). Succes ermee :)

Yes it existed, my oncle work in holland and he offer me this, when i see the language i said thanks but I dont' understand nothing of dutch language, then i try this forum maybe anyone can help me.

I will go to this link then i wil try (I think that isn't work and stop when axim detect's the language.

Did this work for you. If so does it change the language on the Apps as well i.e. Word, Excel etc.

I can't change the language of my X51v to spanish. (I have download the 2 ROM updates, english and spanish)
The step "Writing image to device" is 1 second only and then appears the message "Image updated successfully" but the language is not changed.

I think the problem is in ROM version,

currently you have the english that is A06 and the spanish that is A01.

As i've found, it's impossible to go down in version number,
the solution could be to find the version number in ROM file (with a hex editor) and to give a higher number to the spanish ROM (eg. A07)

No you need a higher English ROM number to do my hack. The number of the second ROM (the Spanish at this case) is not important.

The x50v ROM-Version hack changing an hex value don´t work with the x51v.
