Mad Here is response from Dell reps. (Another one)

This what I wrote to Dell higher depratment to resolve problem: (try to resolve):

Problem: I've discussed my issue with Windows Mobile 5 with many
support agents and none can solve the compatibility issue with it running on
x50v.
I want to request a replacement unit that will be able to run Windows
Mobile 5 correctly. The initial product information did state that x50v
can run WIndows Mobile 5 without problems, but this completely false.
Under the warranty terms, it's stated that Dell will replace a
defective product (in this case, hardware problem with ALL x50v models
that prevent it from running WM 5.0 correctly) with a comparable
product.
My first pda was replacment because of hardware and booting failure. at
the time when I spokoe to Dell rep, he informed me that I should not
have problem with this unit and I should test it but result failed. At
this case that if this won't resolved problems as well update which he
link me on Dell website(R106214), one of dell reps said that unit will be
replace with x51v which doesn't have problems running wm 5.0 and it is
fully compatible.

Once again please don't regret my case and I will appricate to resolve
problem. I am very trusty Dell customer and I am counting on Dell's
support.

ok and this ithe answer from them which oficially states that there won't be any upgrades for x50v running wm 5:

While the Windows Mobile 5 operating system will run on the Axim X50v,
it is not an operating system that has been fully tested for it, nor is
it an operating system that shipped with any X50v. Because of this
Windows Mobile 5 is not supported by Dell on any of the X50s.

My recommendation is, unless you have software that requires Mobile 5,
to continue using PocketPC 2003 for the X50v.

If you have any questions about this please let me know. If you need
assistance in downgrading your X50v to PocketPC 2003, there is a utility
for this available from the Dell support website. I can also provide
assistance with it if needed.

Many of the tools that Dell technicians use are online and available to
you. You can download drivers, software updates, or search Dell's
extensive Knowledge Base and FAQs. For online support 24/7, visit

I will request to return wm5 and get full refund if i dont need it cause it is not supported by dell.

Think that's bad I contacted Dell via chat and was quickly called by Dell because they wanted to keep the comments off the chat which records everything

You are right guys dell is trying to piss off every customer. My other option is to go through BBB (Better Biuro of Bussiness) www.bbb.org. I had problems with T-Mobile and they resolved problems (long story) so hope they will help me with Dell. Now I have proof how dell tolarate customers. Guys like you said warranty covers everything except if you drop unit. Dell is responsible for hardware and software mistakes, bugs and errors. They officaly stated that they dont support users who owns x50 running mobile 5.

ok later guys have good night.

we cannot leave it like that

I agree and I too find it funny that Dell will only talk with me off the record - next time you open a chat session mention WM5 and Dell will quickly insist on calling you to keep it off the recording of the chat session!

I was on a chat 2 weeks ago. My subject line was WM5 incompatibility with x50v. I requested they escalate the problem, and over the next few days and several emails back and forth, they have provided an advance exchange of an x51v. I will receive it tomorrow as I am out of town and had my wife ship it to me. Guys, they are listening, I guess it just depends on how you deal with them.

I agree. Dell did make some errors, but I believe they are learning. I talked to them in a informed yet kind and polite way. I explained my situation, explained my desire to own a PDA which ran WM5 (and how Dell originally said the X50v would do this). Although I got bumped around a bit, I did speak to some friendly and knowledgeable tech support agents. And, oh ya, my new replacement X51v has now been shipped and will arrive within a few days.
