IMHO any card will do - except for slow low-end Kingstons. All depends on how you optimize it. Please read http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17921 for more info.

If we are not looking at the speed of the card when inserted in an external card reader for copying to and from the desktop PC -
then I totally agree - if just the speed is better than 40X - your Axim can't use the speed for cards faster than that.

Fastest running card (in the Axim hardware) by a mile is A-Data 50X 2GB SD, and it's cheap too. $40.85 currently, $4.81 shipping.

Sure it reads Sandisk Ultra III cards.

Ared you absolutely A-Data cards are considerably faster in the Axim than any other brand? I don't think Axims can, say, write to/read from a 150x A-Data card with more than 2 Mbytes a second. (Measured with "simple" file copying as explained in my article - not with completely useless benchmarking tools.)

I've been reported quite a few of A-Data cards having reliability problems. They're indeed very cheap, but I'd still be cautious.

...than any other brand I've personally benchmarked or seen someone else benchmark. Including A-Data's own 150X.

The time I notice this in the Axim is routing long distances GPS. Using OCN5, coast-to-coast routing takes about 3.5 minutes with my previous best card. Now that I have the A-Data 50X, it only takes 1.5 minutes to create the same route.

I have more than half a dozen A-Data cards, never had any problems.

As for camera speed, you want to calculate your fastest required write speed needs in MB/s. When you do the math, the only time you need a fast card is when you are taking full resolution pictures in rapid succession, or when you are downloading lots of pictures to your computer and you are not a patient person. Most movie captures do not require anywhere near as much as photos in fast succession.

I heard Adata has good market on USA, online discount. How about Patriot? They are based on USA. Saw people recommend them, I also heard Adata at e-bay not trustable. Get different size, from this forum if I am not wrong.

There is no such thing as an "Ultra III" (sorry for being pedantic)

And - Yes - X50/51 can use Ultra II and Extreme III
but don't expect to get any speed gain in the Axim.

I've tested several SD/MMC and CF cards and when you get pass the 40X barrier there little or no gain when used in the Axim it self.
But for copying large amounts of data to the card with a card reader - that's another game. Adata 150X cards in this field gives serious performance for reasonable money. Choose the card reader carefull - many are with poor performance when it comes to really fast cards.

What is the difference in speed between CF and SD? (new fast cards) or are they about the same?

Almost nothing. Choose according to your needs. Also see my article - I've explained there how you should choose, depending on your other gadgets / future plans of upgrading.

I use a Transcend 4GB card and have found it very reliable and playing movies is very smooth, and data transfer rates are good.

In my camera I use a 1GB Lexar Platnum which is very reliable.

thanks for all the posts. The main reason was that I am ANNOYED with how slow OCN is working on my Axim. I imagine it is because of the super-dooper compression of North Am. maps on 1 gb card..

Ss previously mentioned - putting the map on a high speed card can improve routing and such.. I guess I was wondering what card that would be.

I guess the answer is : A-Data cards ?

No, the answer is not A-Data cards. The answer to your question "What is the fastest SD card for x51v in a memory range 1-2gb" is the precise card I told you, an A-Data 50X 2GB card.
