Slow start-up with X51v

I've looked through most of the threads and haven't seen this problem referenced exactly anywhere. If it has, and someone could point to it that'd be great. If not...

Every single time I turn on my new X51v, it takes anywhere from 30 secs to more than 2 minutes before I can do anything. Sometimes I get the "white screen" but only for a couple of seconds and then the password prompt appears. If I try and enter the password, it recognizes the keystrokes but still takes time to accept it. Once it starts up, response time is very good; it is only when first turning on.

In addition, I sometimes get odd messages (such as the Odyssey client not found or the CF card being recognized) when I first turn it on, but not everytime.

I have A06 and have applied the fake server trick to stop active sync. Other than this one issue, I love this handheld.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the site. First of all, if you don't use Odyssey, turn it off. do this by opening the program then hitting exit from the 'Settings' at the bottom. As long as you don't start it again it shouldn't come on again. It also sounds like you might have your power set to turn off fully each time you turn it off. That might save some battery but it will take extra time to load programs into RAM each time you turn it back on. Hope this helps.

a time frame of 30 secs at this end of the spectrum from a full off is considered excellent !!!

now ... at the other end of the spectrum you've mentioned ( 2 min.) .. that is due to startup programs each individual installed !!

I've got SBSH pocket weather & iLauncher ( many icons ) ... and it take me a full minute from the time I press & release the power button ( full off .. not suspend ! )

hopes that help you in term of reference ! ;) :approve:

add a step before exiting by manually selecting "DISABLE" just to be sure ! ;)

recap:

/ run the program...

/ select "DISABLE"

/ Exit the program

I was going to add that but I have never had to do it but you would be even more sure (surer? :) ) if you do the disable too. good catch.

Don't think you'll need Odyssey or something else, just turn on Dell WLAN Utility and that should find any WiFi within range, works for me on my X50v and X51v.

Good PPCing,
Jim

I actually prefer Odyssey It has the nice feature of saving your settings for each site you connect too. Much better in my opinion then the dell utility. I would like to try wifi companion but i dont really wanna spend the money
