WPA-PSK TKIP difficulties....

I've decided to beef up my encryption from WEP. However, although I can connect just fine using WEP, for the life of me, the Axim will not work with WPA, pre-shared key and TKIP encryption using a Buffalo AirStation g54.

I have another PPC WM5.0 (HTC Prophet), which connects just fine. That's what makes this all the more puzzling. I'm wondering if there are compatibility issues, although standards are standards, right? :)

Anyone else that connect with WEP, but not WPA?

Are you using Odyssey client? Do you recieve any error messages or will it just not associate? Have you double checked the encrpytion key to insure its correct?

My Axim works fine with Radius and TKIP so the Axim should support it okay, you may also want to check if any firmware upgrades are available for your router.

I'm not using the Odyssey client, just the built-in one. I've entered that PSK many times to no avail. The Axim reports that it's 'connecting', but it never does. The router is using the latest firmware, so I'm just chalking it up to one of the wifi oddities. I'll give the Odyssey config software a shot, although isn't this just a skin of the built-in client?

I have my X50V (running WM2K3.2) connecting with both of my D-Link routers via WPA-PSK; however, I do use the Odyssey client.

This has been brought up before. The issue seems to afflict only some Axim owners. Follow this thread... Good luck!

I too have a router running WPA-PSK/TKIP.

I have had connection problems in the past and for a period could not connect at all. I then performed a hard reset after a ROM upgrade and it worked fine (I have an Axim X51v).

HOWEVER, my wife's iPAQ cannot connect to the network now... despite having done so previously.

Even more curiously... when I deleted the network association on my wife's PDA and re-entered the passkey... the OS reported an incorrect password (it wasn't... I repeated this several times).

I have a Belkin 54g router.

There is definantly something suspitious about the WPA-PSK/TKIP with PDA, I suspect that it's a problem with all PDA's and hence a Windows promlem (WM5 and 2002).

If anyone could shed somelight on this. I'd really like to hear more also.

I own the belkin router you own. go ahead and use the oddessy client. it works well for me with the belkin router. The built in utility is horrible.

Mad RE: WPA-PSK TKIP difficulties...

I own a X51 416Mhz with Socket E300. I'm not able to connect with any router using WPA-PSK, I understand that the Odyssey Client may solve the issue, but the X51 does come with the Odyssey Client. Can someone shed some more light on this, is the Odyseey Client available for download anywhere?

I have a Linksys 54Gs router with similar problems. Wep works correctly, but WPA-PSK TKIP will not associate. My wife's laptop will connect correctly but the Ax will not.

I have not tried any "magic tricks" like turning the router off overnight or doing hard resets, (but have done lot's of soft resets :-() but still it will not connect.

I'll come back with details later...

On my X51V, it's Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Odyssey Client.

Works on mine, but only when using Odyssey Client. Odyssey client really isn't that bad.

I have wrote about this before and I have found out the problem was with the dell
client trying to connect to an access point which was doing wpa-psk aes+tkip.
The dell wlan client is unable to finalize it's connection when the ap is setup in
this fashion. I believe this to be a glitch on dell's part causing it to bail out of
the connection attempt once it sees aes+tkip instead of just tkip. Using the odyssey
client I could get it to work but it made my x50v very unstable and I had a slow
wake up time. In the end I just setup another ap to do wpa-psk tkip and have my
main ap doing wpa-psk aes. Hopefully this is helpful.

I was working on this last night. One thing to check -- when you configured your router, did you set it to mixed mode or G-only?

My X51v appeared to be set up correctly but would not connect. So I went to the router (originally thinking I might have to drop to WPA-PSK from WPA2-PSK). I noticed the G-only setting, changed it to Mixed, saved settings, picked up the Axim and it was connected.

Hope this helps.

good news, no more odyssey client for rom version A12. i tried connecting to my WPA-TKIP network without odyssey after the update and it works great now. rom versions prior to A12 do not work, however.
