It makes it possible to run stand-alone Java apps like Toonel. You won't need it if you "only" want to run Midlets - the two things/environments are independent of each other.

I've thoroughly tested Google Maps; as can be seen in the following screenshot:

much as the app no longer does pixel doubling on text, it does with images and, therefore, should still be run in native VGA mode on VGA Pocket PC's. Then, the , as can be seen in here:

I'll accordingly update the review in the next review version.

Hey Menneisyys, while Discord deserves the kudos for finding and posting the the link to free eval of IBM J9 for x51v, I was the first to mention that it was an updated version. Not even an honorable mention for pointing this out?? (This key bit of info was not in the OP).

How great it would have been to see my username mentioned on a front page story.... Oh well.......

(I am kidding.)

Is it a midlet (then, probably) or a Java applet (then, not - only Jeode and CrEme supports Java applets, as I've also pointed out in the article)? URL?

Nope, it's equally cr@ppy with the WM2003SE x50v, as with Google Maps. It must be a hardware incompatibility - J9 6.1 just hates the x5*v hardware.

Similar - but not the same. This is why there're a lot of stuff that isn't really compatible with the Loox but it is with the Axims (for example, Realdice games - see this article) and vice versa.

VirtualEarth Mobile as a replacement for Google Maps midlet?

Tried Google Maps on my X50 and as others have posted it was slow has hell (didn't even feel like trying Opera after that). Tried Virtual Earth Mobile after the disaster with google maps & it sure works like a charm, has anyone else tried that yet?
