X51v house keeping

As a new user would appreciate some advice:

Backups
I am using Sprite to do a scheduled backup every night to my SD card. It is backing up everything except cards.

From time to time I use Sprite on PC to back up pda to hard drive. It would be really nice to include cards but as far as I can see this requires a change on the PDA. It does not seem possible to selectively backup including cards to hard drive and excluding cards when to card.

SK Tools
I have SK Tools installed, bearing in mind that Sprite reboots pda every night is it still necessary to run SK Tools. If so should I automate this and with what settings. Do I also need to run the SK Tools memory clearer?

Install location
Still unclear whether it is better to install to internal memory or card. Which is faster to load and does having more internal memory free make a difference to performance. I notice that sometimes my PDA seems to slow down.

Note that I also have SPB Plus installed, just the task switching and close options so generally I close apps when finished with them.

So, you want to back up your card to your desktop. You don't need to have explicit support in your backup app for this - a simple file based copy (backup) will suffice. I've discussed this question in my blog (which I really recommend to you too) quite thoroughly - see for example http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ind...&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

On WM5 devices, this isn't so important as on WM2003SE ones., particularly because the x51v has HUGE built-in storage. You may want to run it from time to time.

I backup my 'My Documents' to my SD card. I remove both my SD and CF micro drive from my X51V and back them up to my local pc using a card reader. Since my unit is a X51V with ROM as its sole method of storing user data and applications I have not felt the need to have a complete backup of the system. My purpose previousley for doing a complete unit backup was when I had units that stored my data and loaded application in RAM. I also backup the pim data in Microsoft Outlook to an external hard drive located on my local pc. I have found this to be the backup method that give me the best protection IMHO. I have also went through two ROM updates from Dell and since the reloading of my unit was not a large issue felt it would not be should I need to do it do to some other reason than a ROM update.

I personally see little point in backups under WM5 because no data is stored in volatile memory. Just my half cent.

That point is valid if your battery drains. However, if your device spontaneously hard resets because of software conflicts, etc., it would be a good time to have a backup.
