Aximsitewifiicon Problem with Ad-hoc Wifi

I'm a total noob at wifi, so forgive me if this is a silly question. I've been trying to connect my A06 X51v to my home ad-hoc wifi network but have had no success. My axim does display the communications tower icon with the rings around it but everytime i use IE mobile to connect to a site e.g www.yahoo.com, it says that the site is not available and asks me to check the website name again. I'm not using Odyssey Client and I've disable WEP. My home computer's running Windows XP with Internet connection sharing enabled in the advanced tab of wireless connections. I'm at my wits end as to what could be wrong. Does anyone have any ideas? (In case I left out any essential info, pls let me know.

I have the same problem with IE mobile at Axim. I have try with a wep key and without one but it dosent work.

The only difference with your connection is that i have enable the ICS at my Pc's nic card and not at my wireless Pc card (under network connections).

I can browse the pc's folders but i have the same problem when i try to use the internet connection of my pc in my Axim.

I think the problem is: We both dont get the wi-fi icon bars at Axim to have a signal from the Ad-hoc/Pc. Or do you have a signal at the 5 bars?

is your adhoc connection configured as a The Internet-class connection? if not, is *.* added to the Connection Exceptions list?

(I also recommend my connectivity-related articles in my blog - I've elaborated on these problems a lot there.)

It seems that's we're both doing the same thing. Could you explain what program you used to browse the folders on your pc? I can't do that.

I'm definitely getting a connection from the pc. When I click on the 'comm tower with rings' icon in the taskbar, it says that the connection to my home wifi network is excellent(5 bars - i was standing right next to my computer).

I use the internal Axim file explorer. Like that:
Menu > Open path > \\periklis (my computer name)
And it shows the folders of my pc. This is also working with Resco file explorer.

I dont have those bars you are saying at the taskbar (down at the wi-fi icon).
They are empty (5 of them are empty). Only in the upper icon of the screen i see my connection with my pc.

I use the 3com wireless officeconnect utility toy setup the adhoc connection.
I have 100% signal in the wireless network from there.

I dont get it... I dont undestand why i dont have internet to my Axim from pc's connection

Just make sure you are making some soft resets after you are chaging some setting in the network card of your Axim.

Sorry, but I don't understand the terminology you're using. Could you explain what you mean by configuring as an internet-class connection? Also what do you mean by adding *.* to the Connection Exceptions list?

I've read your article 'A tutorial of setting up and using Wi-Fi peer-to-peer connections between Pocket PC's'. It seems as if you've set your Dell Axim X51 wireless adapter to connect to 'Work' using a server-assigned IP. I tried setting the X51 wireless adapter to both 'work' and 'the internet' and neither worked out.

Put simply, I seem to be able to reach this step. The pda is connected to my adhoc network, however I'm still unable to access the internet! Could it be be a problem with my internet connection sharing(ICS) or other settings?

Sometimes my Pocket IE cannot connect to any site when I enable the wifi to my router. So I delete the cache, history and cookies, restart Pocket IE, and try to connect to www.google.com/pda . It works for me, hope it will for you.

Netfront doesn't seem to have any problems, so I'm guessing it's a problem with Pocket IE.

This is my first post from my X51v! Loving my ax more n more each day. It's from my university library network. Connecting via a router. Can't believe how easy it was, after all the trouble I had with adhoc. l'm using IE Mobile and don't have any issues yet. How is Netfront better than IE Mobile? I've also heard good things abt the Opera browser. Which is faster/cheaper/more reliable?

Btw, does anyone know of a way to reduce the power output of the wifi antenna when I'm closer to an access point? It drains the battery real fast. The ax seems to be set to max output all the time, even when I'm right next to the router!
