My friend wants to buy a used AXIM x51v still under warranty, then call Dell about it and complain about it until they send him a new one. That way he can save the money and end up with a brand new AXIM x51v. He doesn't believe me that the replacement AXIM he receives might be another refurbished model that has had its own problems. Plus, I think its just plain wrong. He was too embarrassed to post the question so I did, but he will read this so please confirm that I am right. That is, if I am. Oh, he also wants me to post: "What can I tell Dell that I can't fix so they'll have to send me a new one?" Please tell my friend he's a moron.

Not the best idea - refurbished machines don't necessarily work very well (what do you think will happen to the used axim that you are trading in? - some other poor punter will get it).

mwise - if your (moron) friend is that concerned about the price, perhaps he can wait for a sale/coupon offering and/or look for a brand new one on eBay that is listed below retail.

Don't need to tell him anything. If your friend can't understand that simple concept all on his own, perhaps an Axim is too advanced for him to handle.
An immoral crook maybe, but no not a moron. Theft is theft. I hope he gets
7 bad refurbs in a row with no way to get his money back and then Dell cuts him off.
Course he'll just claim that Dell makes bad products and never admit he's a crook.

I agree 100% with John! Refurbished units are perfectly good, but that's besides the point. Kharma always wins, so do the right thing always, and you'll win.
If you buy a used one that works from someone you know then you are ahead of the game. If it is still under warrantee and you have a problem it can be replaced by Dell with a Refurb (used) one. There are plenty of those. That one may be worse than the original. Read the posts here and you will find that out. If you have a problem and keep calling support for days and days and get very persistant, then they may just replace your unit. Its not theft, it is under warrentee and that is how Dell handles isssues. Will you be better off, for trading uesed equipment and talking for hours with tech support, I would not wish that on anybody.
i do agree with you, mwise. Dell will send your friend a replacement, but it is not a brand new unit. So who knows he's inviting problem, say a no-problem-second-hand-Axim exchanged for a buggy one.
