Question Does X51 support WPA with Cisco LEAP?

I am considering buying the X51v and I want to know if I will be able to connect to my school's network, which uses WPA with TKIP and CISCO LEAP authentication.

I think Cisco leap technology is backward compatable with wireless technology. From my understanding Leap technology allows one device to jump (LEAP) from one accesspoint to another without loosing a connection or reauthenticate.

The way it does this is that the Wireless AP's communicate to each other (either wireless or by a cable backbone) that send authentication data to other AP's so that once your on the wireless network, you can move between accesspoints seemlessly.

Having to have special hardware on a user level kinda kills the sales pitch. There are so many wifi products out there now, killing the standard for a simple feature would not seem worthwhile. 802.11b is so widespread, I'm sure anything worth buying will be backward compatiable (802.11g and 802.11N are). Noting why you don't see 802.11a much anymore.

The axim's come with a program called Odyssy which allows for all sorts of network configurations for WPA. I'm looking at it now and I can verify that they are options.

Hi,

Yes. My school uses Cisco LEAP, though not with WPA / TKIP. I use WPA / TKIP at home, so I'm pretty sure you can combine the two.

WPA/TKIP is supported by the native WM5 software. To use LEAP, you need to you use the Odyssey Client, which is pre-installed in the ROM image. The Odyssey Client also supports WPA / TKIP.

Cheers.
