Mad X50v Lost Some Files Again...Please help to prevent it.

Hi. It happened again. I lost some of the files off my Sandisk SD card. It happened to me once a while ago. That time I actually lost everything. After that time I only used the x50v for gps and mp3 and haven’t had any problems. Recently I hard reset the x50v and install some new software and starting using it more extensively. Now it happened again, i lost few programs files and folders. I am not sure when it happened but I think it’s when i had to do soft reset after my ppc hanged. The funny thing was that I lost some folders but others appeared. They were double of the folders that i already had. I had double books folder and Temp IE folder. After I connected the sd card with the card reader to the computer i ran scandisk and it fixed a lot of file errors which erased all the double folders and created quite a few chk files. I had to delete them because i wasn't going to go through them to figure out what’s what. This time i didn’t loose anything important but i don’t want this to happened again. What do you guys/girls think that could be done to prevent this. I read that quite a few people had this issue on this forum but i haven’t anyone seen posting any real suggestion of what can be done. Backup is one solution but when you are on the road using gps and everything gets deleted you can't really do the restore right then.
What do you all think can be done? Connecting the sd card to the computer and running scandisk once a month to make sure there are no errors. Maybe taking out the card before doing soft reset if the ppc hangs. Write protecting the card but then some programs might have a problem with that.

Any suggestion would be gladly appreciated!

Thank you,
Yan

A couple things I do. Any program that saves information to a card on a regular basis (rss reader, avant-go, Journal Bar, what ever) I have that info saved on my 2 gig cf card with all my MP3s. On my 1 gig SD card I have all my programs and other 'static' information. The information on my SD card doesn't change much and I don't want to loose it.

It seems like the more often you write to a card, the better chance something corrupt will get written. After 3 months my SD card has no errors from Scan Disk. My CF card has had a few errors, but not many.

I back up my SD card once a month, or when I make some major changes. The CF card I back up less. I am not worried about the CF card - if the data gets corrupt I will reformat and then copy my stuff back - no big deal.

What you describe is a Faulty SD Card. It happens. It's not your device. I'd call the card manufacturer and get a replacement.
