I answered to a couple of my friends having the same issues...Almost all of them have lots of MP3, Pictures in their \My Documents folder and use up all RAM...
Please check! and keep your main memory as clean as possible...Move .tsk files (Wallpaper) to storage card...

Why would this be the reason? I don't have a good understanding of a
memory layout model of X51v, but thought that "RAM" is a separately
allocated area that does not overlap with the area where \My Documents
is stored.

my docs is on the ROM, but it still doesnt hurt to keep it clean!
I owned two X51v (one got lost), the first one was very slow and the second is normal just look like another model. I guess some machines are defective. Call for a replacement if it's abnormally slow.

erm, its a refurb so im not sure where i stand with that!
If it's without any 3th party software after a hard reset extremely slow.. it's probably defect. I Think i had a x3i once with similar problems, the sd-socket was defective (didn't recognized the sd cards either) and it was extremely slow within 15min after a hard reset.
Sorry to say this but I think your unit's defective. Unless you've hacked the Axim, it should be as good as new after a hard reset. My advice is to do one final hard reset, and remove the SD and CF cards. If it's still really slow get a replacement.
BTW, my Axim was a rather slow immediately after a hard reset, but subsequently the speed improved. Hope it's not a defect, but has anyone else had this problem?
Just got mine in the mail yesterday. No additional software was installed and it is damn slow, what I mean by slow is the wifi connection. It takes helluva time (up to 15-20 minutes) just to open a simple webpage, sometime the connection even times out.
I heard the wifi performance on PDAs is not great, but not to this extent. I tried hard resets, removing flash cards to no avail.

Am I one of those unlucky chaps?
Any tips?
Try other networking services - for example, accessing your POP3 mailbox - to see whether it's only IEM that is affected, or all networking clients.
