Intel 2007G accelerated applications

Hi!

I wonder if there are any 3D accelerated applications (not games) for the x51v, e.g. a 3D model viewer or an interactive globe or someting like that?

Thank for any links!
Dominik

Hi,

there is a VRML viewer if I recall correctly, although VRML is pretty much dead from that I gathered. Beside that there is a 3D viewer named PocketPDB for scientific stuff like genomes and models of nucleoids and alike.

I'm writing 3D stuff for my X51v atm, but to be honest, the 2700G drivers are not really that great - hopefully we'll see updates anytime soon.

Cheerio,
gabb

Just out of curiosity, could some of you guys run this little app and tell me the results of the driver? I thought all X51v users should have the same result, but google implies something else, so I just wanna check. People post your hardware specs and the results of the driver detection along with the Version number.

No worries, no malware or anything - any IL Disassembler will proof. It's just an implementation of Mark Prentice's (from the MS Windows Mobile Team) DriverIdentification code.

http://rawmode.org/~gabbana/Detect3D.exe

Works definetly for X50v and X51v, not sure about low resolution models, probably not, but they are not interesting for 3D anyway (sorry folks).

Cheers,
gabb

Hmm on my A04 x51v, it doesn't work. It says it needs a newer version of .NET CF but as far as I knew I had version 2? .NET CF 1.0 and 2.0 are listed on my removable programs menu...

That's weird - it really just requires CF 2.0, maybe CF 1.x conflicts - tried removing it?

No, not just for my silly little app, but because CF 1.x is just a subset of CF 2.0 and is mostly obsolete anyway, since 2.0 is downwards compatible, at least MS says so. :)

Thanks for the results. It seems the X51v's do indeed have the same drivers installed. I extended the application for my purpose, so it can run a traversal through the drivers 3d capabilities, which should give 3D programmers a clue whats possible and how to code with performance in mind for such an device.

If anyone wants a copy, the link is still up2date, just a new binary:

Oh, here is also a screenshot:

I had to uninstall and reinstall .NET and reboot the PDA to get it to run, but after getting it to run it gives me the same results as everyone else.

Ok, cool - then it was just a .NET problem with conflicting version of whatever module. Is there a X50v user who'd like to post his results too? Curious if there is a difference between the two models.

I have been using Blender on my Axim X50v for about 2 months now for poly modeling when I`m at work (I`m only a 3D hobbyist)

You can get Blender from http://blenderce.blogspirit.com/

It`s quite nice in VGA mode but takes a while to get used to the control.

I tried that a few weeks ago, but it doesn't work on x51v.

Blender looks nice, but there is no conversion tool that'd support direct porting from Blender models to the native PowerVR format as far as I can see.

If you really want something as dynamic as a 3D game or dynamic 3D model viewer, then you probably must go down a deeper level of abstraction - model in 3D SMAX (or Blender, but then use a conversion tool to .3ds) and then feed it into PowerVR MBX via the tools provided with the PowerVR SDK.

I must admit I haven't understood everything yet regarding how to squeeze out the most of it performance-wise, but it's good to know that other people here are interested in this stuff too. :)

hrmm... it works just fine on my X50v with WM5 I thought the only difference between them was the backup battery?

@FunkyCowie: same driver name / version / device id?

Thing is, X50v came with 2003 and that did not included Direct3D Mobile like WM5 does - so most of the 3D stuff was done with OGLES and/or GAPI, I wasn't sure if the driver differs to match that different setup.
