Just bought a x51v-624. According to Windows Mobile website from microsoft, you can connect to the exchange server.
I could not complete the connection.
Why, does activsync only connect to an exchange server, but not sync with exchange. I know now that MSFP is not on the device.
I spoke to Dell tech support and they suggested a refund. They have also never heard of MSFP. What goes on there....
What is the point, just out of interest, in having a PDA like this if you cannot connect to an exchange server, considering that the whole device is geared around connecting to an exchange server, like the calendar, tasks, email and contacts.
I synchronize with our company's Exchange server through my cell phone over bluetooth. I have not had a single problem in making this work. You do have to have web access to your Exchange server on port 80, though, as ActiveSync works through a web application on the server (through IIS). Is it possible that your company's firewall is blocking access?

I think on the exchange server it is called OMA to connect directly. (OWA is the normal web access, where oma is mobile access)
Not sure what your company has, but I recently set up an exchange 2003 ENT server for our company, and OMA was completely broke after the initial install and after sp2 it was even more broke if that is possible
Anyways, just allowing port 80 to be open is a good start, and ensuring OWA works is another good start as it proves that IIS is working, the last step is to insure OMA is working, and at least for us it still doesn't work. And as usual MS doesn't know what to do, they even remote assisted and couldn't fix it.

Check the permissions on the "Exchange" (OWA) website in IIS. For some reason, Activesync needs "integrated permissions" checked off. I just set up a Treo 650 today with Versamail (which supports Activesync) and had to change this permission. It's one that is easy to miss. And yeah, Microsoft tech support has gone south lately (or should I say Far East?)

I've got Exch2k3 running here and it works great with my Ax. When at work, it connects directly. When at home or near a WIFI hotspot, it automatically initiates a VPN connection to work, connects directly to Exch. and syncs up fine. There are, as others have mentioned, settings on the server that need to be enabled. If you are not the admin, see if they can turn on mobile access.
I have an x50v and Windows Mobile 5.0. I can't seem to sync to the exchange server at all. Can you tell me how you did it? I did a chat session with Dell today and they told me that they don't support it. They only support synchronizing with the PC.
I was sure to point out to the technician that I'm pretty firm in my belief that Axim Support are mutually exclusive terms.
I don't suppose you could share how you did this? I'm the exchange admin and I enabled it, but I still cannot connect. Maybe you can give me some tips?
Go to www.mail2web.com, get a free Exchange Server account and sync up with it. Read here for the settings!

Please advise.
When connecting devices like PocketPC, Windows Mobile an Symbian to complex systems like Exchange and SQL server, it often happens that failure getting results make the blame go to the devices. MSFT is a security update for the Exchange 2003. If it is not installed on the server - don't blame the device.
If the feature you are looking for is "push mail" (part of MSFT) it is not included in the Windows Mobile 5 until at least AKU 2.0 - and right now we are running on AKU 1.1 in the lates ROM from Dell.
Besides this there could be a thrillion reasons for not getting a connection. Are you using an URL - if yes - what is the URL - can it be correctly translated (DNS) from where you are trying? Do you use an IP address - if yes - can it be reached with the corresponding service from where you are trying (this goes for the first question as well)? Does your server use SSL - have you installed the public key for this on your Axim? The user you are trying as - is he mail enabled? May he use Active Sync against the Exchange server? Do you have port filtering somewhere between Exchange and the Axim?
danjwalker: Are you the administrator for the Exchange server that you are trying to sync with? If so, are you running SSL and/or forms based authentication for Outlook Web Access? The easiest way to see the actual problem is to dive into the Event Monitor logs on the Exchange server. Have your Exchange Admin follow "Method 3" at this URL to fix the problem:
