While resolution does matter quite a bit, the DPI on the device also affects the "clarity" of the screen. Smaller screened PDA's such as the HTC Wizard with a 2.8" screen and QVGA appear to be much crisper than regular 3.5" QVGA screens. But in a direct comparison of VGA 3.7" to QVGA 3.5", the VGA wins hands down.

Here is a QVGA photo

VGA also refers to the resolution. VGA resolution is 640x480. This is why sometimes cell phones have a 'VGA' camera; it takes pictures at 640x480. There is also SVGA, XVGA, and others, which refer to different resolutions (800x600, 1024x768, etc). CRT monitors used to be rated on this.

So for the Axim, all it means is that the screen is 640x480. It may be a digital signal, or it may be analog, I don't know, and it doesn't really matter.

An interesting side note here, a pure analog signal is actually SUPERIOR to digital. Digital transmits via computerized signals, (binary), so it has limited to the quality that can be delivered. Using audio as an example, there is a finite amount that the sound can vary, so some quality can be lost from it's pure instrumental or vocal source. The loss is extremely small, to the extent that very, very few people can even tell the difference. What this means though, is that a hi-fi cassette is actually better quality than a CD, because a cassette is analog. Think of how a phonograph record is made....it uses the soundwaves to cut grooves into a disk, the groves vary exactly with the sound.

However, digitial is typically a better choice because it is not as susceptable to interference....digital signal either is recieved in its entireity, or not at all.(so if you are buying cables for a digital signal, do not be suckered into the expensive ones-it makes no difference...you could use a coat hanger for a wire signal and have the same quality) Analog can be affected by other electronics, or with cell phones, range issues, and that causes static.

Ok, back on topic, VGA > QVGA, end of story :-)
Yea maybe it is digital cuz the pictures I have on here look better than on my desktop dell monitor(analog) same goes with video, and yea it would also be awkward for what is said to be a digital device to be transmittin an analog signal. The sound is digital via wm8750 so the vga video must also be digital via 2700G,and every tape out there wishes that it could sound better than our axims or cds/dvds the quality of the sound is much clearer.Either way tho there is a major difference between this x50v and a QVGA x50mid cuz I had an x50mid until dell replaced it with this vga model, and now im hoping nothin goes wrong with this one cuz they might put me back in QVGA.
