change BT virtual serial COM port assignments

Hello,

Is there a way to assign inbound and outbound bluetooth communications to the same X51 virtual serial port? Or is there a way to have 2 virual serial ports open at once?

I have an X51 with WM2003 SE and I'm trying to control a data acquisition (DAQ)system with my PDA via bluetooth. I believe I've installed WIDCOMM Bluetooth driver version 1.4 (whatever came with LabVIEW PDA Module 7.1). I was able to setup a virtual serial port connection between my X51 and the DAQ, however the virtual serial port settings are automatically assigned (by the driver?) to be Inbound COM Port 8 and Outbound COM Port 7 and I don't know how to change this.

My problem is. with separate inbound/outbound ports, I don't know how to send the command to the DAQ to start outputting data on one port and then switch over to a different port to input that data. As far as I can tell, the outbound port (COM7) won't input the datastream, the inbound port (COM8) won't send the command requesting the data, and both ports can't be open at the same time. I believe the DAQ system commands and settings are correct because this routine works with my desktop collecting DAQ data via bluetooth (that uses a single inbound/outbound port).

Any suggestions? So far I've only worked on small LabVIEW programs and on mToken (kind of a hyperterminal for PDAs), so any input about different software would be helpful as well.

thanks in advance,
Luan

update: problem solved

Hi,

I can communicate inbound/outbound via Bluetooth on my PDA's virtual serial port(s?) now. I don't quite understand what's different, but here's what I did.

I downloading a Windows Mobile 2003 SE update-- some sort of ROM upgrade that claimed my WM2003 SE was changed from version A01 to A05. My PDA's Settings->About page didn't change and says:

Windows Mobile 2003 SE
Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14260.2.0.5)

as it did before. But the Bluetooth Settings->About page changed from:

BT-PPC Version 1.5.0 Build 2600

to:

BT-PPC Version 1.5.0 Build 2601

After upgrading, I can send a command (on mToken) to my DAQ requesting data and immediately this data comes streaming back. I don't know whether the data is streaming back on COM7 or COM8 is automatically openned or what-- somehow the BT driver/operating system makes that run smoothly now.

So-- hopefully, this "solution" will work for anybody who has a similar problem...

btw: thanks for the welcome, Kevin :)

Surely, LuanV, you have an X50, not an X51. If so, tell us all how you got WM2003SE installed on the X51!!

Welcome, Luan, thanks for a little insight into the problems of virtual serial ports.

Hi Luan,

Can you confirm that it's an X51 or an X50?

LuanV -
Congratulations on your first post :approve:

It's evident that you are technically capable - but have you really installed 2003se into a x51 ?

BTW: Welcome to the AximSite - Enjoy your stay and I'm sure you'll be back - again, again :)
