Mad Axim X51v Windows Media Player - missing codec

Hello All,
thanks for the site. This is my first post.

Please could you help me?

I have downloaded a few webcasts from M$ (Live Meeting). I can't play them in WMP. I guess it needs 'WM9 Screen Capture' codec used to compress the slide data.
How can I solve this issue? Please help.

Thanks,
Varsham

Thanks for the reply.

I did try TCPMP (ver 0.72RC1) - actually that's the player I use for most of the movies I have. It says that the codec (Windows Media Video 9 Screen) is not supported. WMP only gives the audio - no video.

Please, any other suggestions? I really need this feature - it was one of the main reasons I bought the player. I understand that I could re-encode the webcasts but it's a very time-consuming operation - I have many of these WMV videos :-(

Thanks,
Varsham

I had the same problem when I downloaded some training videos earlier from M$ and LearnvisualStudio.net. What I did was to re-encode them using MediaCoder to WMV and it works fine now.

I think that you will find that the core tcpmp software and the several accompanying codecs( 2or 3) will play any thing you could possibly want and better than any other player you can find. And it's free. I can play all of the video files on my ppc that I can with my power user pc media player and codec library with the same quality.

Thanks Everyone.

I have tried the raw mode, also downloaded all additional codeces for TCPMP - no success.

I guess I am out of luck and I do have to re-encode the files :-(

One last question for Sarin_j: what settings do you use to keep the output file size close to the original size when using MediaCoder (for those who don't know about this type of video - since most of the time you just have some slides and audio, the original WMV size is very compact - 6MB file keeps ~1 hour audio/video course)?

Thanks again
