Device.exe error and other concerns

I just received my x51v and began installing programs. After a while, I decided to do the fake server hack. Not sure if this caused my delimma, but I can't ignore the coincidence. A couple of things are happening:
  • Every so often, I get an ActiveSync error after plugging in my PDA. Not sure what triggers it, although it did happen after soft-resetting the PDA while in the cradle (USB connected). The error is effectively an illegal operation. The message displays on my laptop and PDA. I also have an iPAQ hx4705 w/ WM2003SE sync'ing to the laptop (2 AS profiles). No problems w/ the iPAQ, nor did I notice issues w/ my Axim until the hack.
  • Device.exe error pops up on the PDA every so often after just sitting in the cradle. It happened a few minutes ago. The only thing open was SuperTasks diplaying CPU usage (I was montoring it to watch filesys.exe CPU utilization over time).
  • How can I turn off the irritating "unknown publisher ..." message each time I install a program?
edit: I found the fix after looking around the forum.
Thanks in advance,

Jeff

All seems fixed. I hard reset my PDA, did the fake server hack prior to the first active sync session (no partnership existed). I then disabled error reporting and applied a few hacks from Tweaks2K2.

No errors and it is reasonably fast. One thing though...I only have 23 MB of free main memory. Not sure why; Memmaid doesn't display anything out of the ordinary...the usual processes have the "usual" amount of memory committed.

My iPAQ hx4705 w/ the same configuration has about 34 MB of free memory. All programs on my iPAQ are installed on the SD card, with nothing intentionally installed in main memory or persistent storage (strata flash). I know quite a bit about PDAs "under the hood", but this one baffles me. Anyone have ideas of what to check? I've already inspected services, processes and startup programs. All are in line with my iPAQ, so it must be something I'm overlooking.
