Speeding up the Axim x51? Is it possible?

Hi,

I'm new and I have a feeling this has been asked before but bear with me.

I'm a new Dell axim x51 user and I use it mainly to store a program for nurses who need access to information on medications, labs and pathology stuff. Aside from that I have one Tetris game on my axim so I don't seem to have that much. I find that my axim often stalls or sometimes slows down and I'd really like to know if there is ANY way that I can speed up the rate of things.

I'm not really hardware/software saavy but I have been told one cannot just change the speed of the processor but I've also been told there are way to perhaps "accelerate" things. I don't know the exact words.

So, if anyone has helpful tips about ways to do this without it being too much like rocket science I would so very much appreciate it! I just don't have time to be standing around waiting for my axim to start churning....

THANKS!!!

Welcome to Aximsite!

Hmm, you must be running some kind power hungry program there, coz my Axim is plenty fast, pretty much on all of my apps...

G'day,
If you have an X51v it can be set to have the processor run at high/medium/Low speeds or on auto where speed changes according to system load. The higher the processor speed the faster battery charge is used up.
To change the speed go: Start/Settings, click on Power then click on the "Processor" tab at the bottom of the screen. You'll see the options there.
I have my X51V set to high for that reason. But I do have an extended battery.

If you've a straight x51 I'm afaid I can give any suggestions. You seem to have minimal applications - have you much (or any) in the way of Today screen plugins. Some of those, I understand, can chew up processor time especially any that keep checking for events.

Sorry I can't be more help.
Cheers

Does your Axim perform better/faster after doing soft-resets? If so, it may be you're opening up programs and not completely shutting them down because in default mode, pressing the X button at the upper right hand corner will only minimize programs. They will still be in RAM, and the more you have opened, the less free RAM you'll have available, and the slower your Axim will be. You can check to see which programs are in RAM by going to Settings and opening up the Memory control applet. If you want a program to enable you to see all the opened programs on the upper bar (and be able to quickly switch between programs) and give you the option of completely closing a program when you press "X", I'd recommend something like Magic Button (freeware).

Also, make sure you don't have your WiFi and Bluetooth on unless you need it, as that could potentially slow things down as well.
