Even nicer if you tweak your registry to have cleartype to work on landscape.

Setting this registry entry will 'enable' cleartype, but the benefits of cleartype don't work in landscape.
Cleartype only works because of the order of the colour in pixels in lcd screens. It renders individual colours in text instead of three, thereby giving you a 3x increase in horizontal resolution. Because of that it won't do anything while in landscape because the pixels are orientated vertically instead of horizontally. It'll 'work', but the subpixel rendering won't work, and what you'll see is not actually cleartype. There's a reason it's turned off by default.
I use twkcl to get cleartype in landscape. Its a small exe u put in the start up folder. Works like a charm. The benefits of cleartype work great on my x50 in landscape. You can get this software for free: http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/twkcl.shtml
Im sure its the same as the reg tweak.

Not entirely correct. The Cleartype is similar to anti-aliasing for fonts, effectively smoothing out the non-linear sections of each character. There are chromatic differences between standard/rotated orientations in most LCD screens, which can make Cleartype less effective.
There's nothing wrong with turning it on, it still improves the appearance of the text, though not as well as when in standard orientation.

As far as the landscape quality of the x51v screen is concerned, I recommend this article (and the two AximSite threads linked from it).
Don't pee in the soup here man -- this thread was praising the Landscape capabilites of the x50v/x51v. Why point people to a somewhat opinionated negative review of the screen?

Also, when in landscape mode you are not able to view as much content on the screen in one time as you can in portrate mode because the top and lower bars are longer and take up more scren realestate.

actually i think it is quite warranted. On 5 hour flights i used to get bad headaches and couldn’t figure out why.
this article when first written was very useful to me and i wish i read it before i bought a VGA axim being a heavy landscape user.
I think to any regular (or troll :P) on this forum by now knows that Menneisyys' roundups, reviews and other tips are not biased and quite objective. Just because his article doesn’t mesh with your view is tough.
I encourage you to try his test in the article which displays the narrow focus of the lighting on the axim screen you may be surprised by what you see.

I didn't post any "view" in this thread. All I said was that this thread was praising the landscape capability, and it isn't necessary to squash everyone's fun.
I don't need to try his test. If you go to some of my past posts I've written extensive info about LCD shortcomings when viewed at non-standard orientation. Yes the analysis is correct, the x50v/x5v screen does have bad ghosting in landscape. But if not everyone sees it, why force the issue?

the cool thing about landscape for me is that you get bigger font in .pdf files... and the web pages display better...

Why are you being such a prick? You talked about "Menneisyys" having a good reputation here, well if you looked around a bit you'd see that I do too. And relating to the topic at hand, I spent 2 years on a development team for OLED screens while I was at Kodak, so I'm certainly not ignorant on displays.

Landscape is the best for excel, internet, videos, and aything else that was made to be viewed at the resoultion of a real pc. As far as old programs not working in landscape, i have few issues. AIM works fine, and so do most others. The only problem i get rarley is text over the top of other text in some programs in landscape.

Well, I found it necessary to point out that the Landscape mode does have problems and that about half of the posters in the two linked AximSite threads clearly had problems with it. Of course, even those threads have a lot of flamewars and name-calling :) This is one of the questions that almost always results in flamewars.
I think this needs to be pointed out before causing severe headache to people that try to, say, browse the Web or read lengthy e-books in Landscape mode for hours :) (It did happen to me too - unlike on my other VGA devices - the hx4700 and the Pocket Loox 720 - and I had headcahce for about a day. After that, I've never used my x51v for landscape-mode browsing.)
I certainly don't want to bash the device - I just wanted to warn people of the problems. It's just the other side of the coin.
