x50v file compression

quick question all. I have a 715 MB file that I'm trying to move onto my 1gb CF card. I keep getting errors that I don't have enough space. The file is actually a divx movie that I was trying to get on my axim to test out screen quality and settings (realize that i'd need to get a divx player on the axim before I could play movie). When compressing the file / converting it to PocketPC format, does it increase in size? Or is this just because it's actually converting the divx to wmp? Are there divx players / plugins out there for the x50, and if so, how would I go about getting the divx files successfully onto the card?

thanks for any input

To play Divx and other non-Windows formats, you need TCPMP:

As for fitting the file onto your card, be aware that a 1GB card doesn't have 1GB true capacity, which may explain the memory error. Is the card completely empty? Do you have a smaller file to try? Also, are you using a card reader to transfer?

File compression wouldn't help much. Compression ratio would be close to 1:1 for Divx, and you would have to decompress anyway to view the file. Check your formatting: FAT32 allows a little bit more to be stored, but FAT16 is a great deal faster.
And use a card reader. They can be had for under $10 if you look around a little. They are so much faster than ActiveSync.

yeah the card is completely empty and has over 900MB of free space. I'm using activesync at the moment because im abroad and didnt bring my card reader. I hate how freaking slow it is. Could using activesync be causeing this?

ActiveSync is lousy at transferring large files. Definitely use a card reader if possible.
