I've had my X51v for about a week now and it is driving me up the wall syncing when I don't want it to. I often put it in the cradle when I want to upload code to it or do other things, but it ALWAYS automatically syncs when I put it in the cradle. I have found ways to turn this off, but then the connection is turned off as well.
Is there ANY way to set this up so I can transfer files etc. but not have to wait for a sync? I really seriously ONLY want it to sync when I press a button or otherwise tell it to.
I beleive there is 3rd party software that allows you to turn off the every 5-10 minutes "auto-sync", but I do not have the name/link.
After I sync my X51, I simply unplug the USB cable from my PC. The solution is far from perfect, but since I use a USB port in the front of the PC, its not that big of a hassle.

I do not think that will stop it from syncing every 5-10 minutes when in the craddle. It will stop the Axim from "looking" for the craddle to sync when its not in the craddle.

Thanks for the suggestions. But disabling the connection or unplugging the USB leaves me with no connection at all. I often need a connection to tranfer files or load code for development. What I am really looking for is a way to disable automatically syncing while maintaining a connection.
Although turning off the every 5-10 minutes thing would be nice in itself. :)
I have not tried this. I think I read from somewhere that run card export will disable active sync. The axim becomes a big card reader. Is this the OP want?
As far as I know, there is no way that I have found to stop ActiveSync from automatically syncing every few minutes (which really has to be one of the most annoying things microsoft ever did). There is some program that can shut off ActiveSync (I'm blanking out on the name of it though, sorry). You turn ActiveSync on whenever you need it, and turn it off when you don't. Hopefully someone else remembers the program....
The program to shut off Activesync is called Activesync Toggle. It won't do what you're looking for though.
When I put my Axim in the cradle, it pops up a window prompting me to set up a Profile or something. I usually cancel out and it remains in Guest mode. I can install programs and explore the PPC - it never seems to try to sync every 5-10 mins as others have posted.
If you've already set up a profile (as most would), I guess it would not give you that prompt and try to sync automatically - I usually press the Stop button (but of course it seems to be continuously trying to sync still - but it actually never does anything - I can install programs, explore the PPC fine while it's doing this).
I guess one way around is to delete your profile and log on as a guest when you intend to do extended work.
why don't you just uncheck every single items (email, task, notes). It will still autosync, but not as long I suppose.
