Li-Ion batteries are much better than the old NiCad junk. I have heard several things you can do to help maintain them a bit longer. They don't help substantially, but they can help a bit.
1) Try not to run it completely dead. Once you get a low battery notification (20%ish) try to charge it as soon as you can.
2) Avoid short recharges. Try not to take it off for just a couple minutes and put it back on right away. Used the battery up a bit before charging again.
3) If you need to store the battery for more than a month, wear it down to just under halfway, and store it in the refrigerator (NOT the freezer).
These are just some things I have picked up from the forum here...I haven't really personally been able to verify any of them, as it's hard to do without timing battery life over a couple years, but they seem to make sense. Following those guidelines is no where near as important as it was with NiCad batteries, but it should help a bit.
