I just backed up my Ax to a Network Storage Drive here at work using AS 4.2 with absolutely no problems at all. I can't remember ever backing up with AS 4.1, so I'm not sure how they differ. I don't know if it's an option for you, but you might try AS 4.2 beta and see if that makes any difference. Good Luck!!!

According to the help files in AS, it still allows backups if you are using wm2003se but if you have wm5 then it won't even show up as a selection.
