ActiveSync Backup

What happened to the ActiveSync Backup option in 4.1? Is there a better way to backup data?

It was removed for WM5. the backup on the pda itself should still work or you can go third party like sprite software or others.

BTW - active sync backup has failed me a couple of times. SPB backup has not failed me, and has more options.

If I use the Data Backup option on the Axim, is there any issue with deleting the previous backup each time I make a new one? Or should I keep a couple?

Yes you should keep a couple, and you should back everything up on a regular basis (depending on how much you use your PPC)

I am having problems doing a backup, even to the Axim itself (X51v). I am trying to use Sprite Pocket backup, have server part running on PC, start backup with PDA in cradle, activesync connected, check Backup to PC, click Backup and nothing happens. It just sits there for hours.

If I uncheck Backup to PC, same thing happens.

in one of the tutorials I browsed through there was a mention of a Microsoft backup tool, in the power tools range I think. I have Sprite myself but I am gonna give it a go on my other Ax

Yes, I really have no idea why I can't get Sprite B/U to work on my X51v. I have tried all settings and configurations but no go

are you sure you are using the version that is for wm5? the old version won't work on wm5. you should have 5.1.0 build 1417 or newer and if not go to the website and get the latest and you should be good.

Using SPB Backup is easy! Glad I've installed the program it saved my sanity a few times! :approve:

And do save a few backups, move 'em for safe keeping to a folder on your desktop. When you have to be sure!

Well, I just stopped in for a quick read and this thread reminded me that I had not backed up in awhile. So I gave it a shot. I'm using AS 4.2 beta on an X50v both at work and home. I just backed up my Ax to a Network Storage Drive here at work using AS 4.2 with absolutely no problems at all. I can't remember ever backing up with AS 4.1, so I'm not sure how they differ. I don't know if it's an option for you, but you might try AS 4.2 beta and see if that makes any difference. Good Luck!!!

Thanks for reply BigDave, I guess I was using an older version I had in files somewhere. I checked out SPB Backup and it worked okay, but I think Sprite is better so may have to get it.
