Aximsiteactivesyncicon X51v active sync Retrieving settings forever

Need help for active sync with X51v on windows 2000.
Various solutions for XP can be found in other threads and in M$ knowledge base, but it seems that no one has a solution for W2k.

Status and problem information:
I got my X51v (german version) last week.
I installed active sync 4.1 (english) on my computers at the company (XP engl.) and at home (W2K SP4, engl).
I only want to sync my calender and contacts.

At the company I am using mNotes together with lotus notes, no outlook and I had no problem to get active sync running.

At home after connecting my axim, active sync showed a window "retrieving settings" which did not stop. Thus I can not even go to active sync and choose any options.
I checked the threads here at the forum but could not find a valid solution.

So I disconnected the axim and connected my old PDA with windows mobile 2000 and I could establish a partnership without problems.

Then I again connected the axim but still the same problem. I tried disabling my firewall, antivirus scanner and outlook but the problem exists.

Strange enough the connection to the axim is there as I can see it in the windows explorer and I can also explore files.
I activated the firewall and antivirus software again and the device is still accessible through the explorer. But active sync does not stop to retrieve settings.
Thus I am not able to install PDA software through active sync or to set any active sync options.

I even upgraded to active sync 4.2beta but same as above.
Any further clues anybody ???

I'm runing WinXPPro, ActiveSync 4.2 (not beta), and am having the same situation. I'll have to search for the resolutions you referred to, but thought I'd mention that it happens in other circumstances.
I should say that before I got the "Retrieving settings" forever, the x51v said it was connected, but ActiveSync on the desktop just kept saying "Connecting...". If I removed the PDA from the cradle, the desktop recognized this event, and stopped. But if I put the PDA back in, ActiveSync would be Connecting forever.

Mad X51v no sync with W2k, Sygate PF solution for XP

I gave up trying to sync with my w2k box.
Why does M$ never do it as simple as possible?
I hate their protectionistic approaches.
A device should behave like a disk or like a LAN device without even needing a software like active sync to connect.
ActiveSync should only be required to sync data with outlook, nothing else!!
I hope very much M$ has to pay its fine from the EU for not disclosing their software interface specs to other companies. :realmad:

BTW: The Axim seems to have a problem with Sygate PF because it does not have the correct settings for MTU.
Anyone having trouble with Sygate Personal firewall should set the following registry entries (e.g. using PHMregedit for PDA, google for phm regedit).
After I applied the settings I did a soft reset and after that I had no problems on my XP Box with Sygate running.

Reg Sub Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\RND IS]
Name of value to add: MTU
Type: DWORD
Data: 1514 (decimal)

Reg Sub Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\RND IS]
Name of Value to add: MaxOutTransfer
Type: DWORD
Data: 1642 (decimal)

Aximsiteactivesyncicon Retrieving Settings solved on W2k

Finally managed to get this dumb thing running with my W2k System and SYGATE PF.
No special tips from M$ needed. :exc:

1. Did a hard reset on my Axim
2. Installed PHMregedit by transferring it through an SD card.
3. Applied registry patches as listed in my previous note
4. Connected device and presto! :approve:

Sygate asked for allowing WCSEcomm.exe and rapimgr.exe and I allowed both and that's been it.
There is a final tweak I found.
If I give my Axim a name other than the default name, W2k resets it back to the default.
In my case I entered my Name (Peter K.) on the owner Information screen and the default device ID became WM_Peter.
I had changed the device ID on Start->Settings->System->Info->DeviceID to show "AximX51vPK" but ActiveSync changed it back to WM_Peter.
On my XP box it did not do this, but I think I'll leave it at the default settings to avoid future problems.

Hey philili!

I want to thank you so much for your solution!

I specially registered to this board to thank you.

I don't even own a X51v but I do own an E-ten M600 with WM5.
I was getting crazy of this problem but with your solution it just worked, instantly!

Oh man, you made my week complete and I'm so happy now you can't imagine.

I could sync with Bluetooth but it was just a hassle and now I can with using my USB. I also think Microsoft needs to know about this because I've browsed a lot of boards with the same complaint and your solution did the trick!

Man, again: Thank you very much for posting a good, working solution!

Greetings phumaguy
