DOSBox and a CF serial Port?

What I have is an Axim X50, a Socket CF to serial adapter, and pDOSbox 2.0, and they are not playing nice. What I need to do is convince pDOSbox that the CF card is a com port. Please tell me this is possible.

just put the applications you want in a folder called something like "DOS APPS" and add this lines in the dosbox.conf file

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount c "\cf card\DOS APPS"
c:

that should add the folder DOS APPS as the C: drive, you can add as many folders/drivers as you want...

oh, I'm using the DOSBOX found here (n0p's 0.63). Have no clue if it works with yours...

@Frannyman: I don't think that's a solution for the problem MINI has!?
@MINI: wouldn't it be easier to use the serial port the Axim provides through the connector!?

I haven't done this by myself - just wondering...

Best regards,
Seppel

I have heard a lot about this version but I thought it was the old version of pDOSBox until I clicked your link. I will give it a try, but I wasn’t trying to mount a CF storage card, I purchased a CF serial adapter. It is a CF card with a DB9 dongle hanging off it. But again I will give it a try and see what happens.

Because I thought that a CF card would be “plug and play” instead of “plug and pray”. Besides the way I understand it you have to build some kind of circuit to make it work properly, but thanks for the suggestion.

Must the app be Pocket Dosbox?

I use serial communications apps with Pocketdos for all my PPC RS-232 interfacing.

While I don't use a CF Serial Card, I did find my old Ambicom CF modem and confirmed it is recognized automatically by Pocketdos at bootup.

You might want to try the free demo to see if you have the same results with your CF Serial Card.

I originally was going to try PocketDOS but I was at home and 7MB over dial up would take forever. Now that I am at work with DSL it should be a snap. I will give it a try. Another reason I dodn’t try it is because it only emulates a 186 and wasn’t sure if my software would work, but I will try it anyway.

Pocketdos supports the following dos enhancement plugins:

WMFPUEMU i80387 FPU emulator plug-in for PocketDOS (v1.09.0+)

Bochs i80486DX CPU emulator plug-in for PocketDOS (v1.09.0+)

DOSBox i80486SX CPU emulator plug-in for PocketDOS (v1.09.0+)

(Here's my Pocketdos on my X5 emulating a 486DX)

Good Luck . . .

Curious... would DOSBox let you play a game like Dune? I think the game I'm thinking of is called Dune.. its very similar to Warfare Incorporated. Probably too much for an Axim, but thought I'd thow it out there.

Success!

I got my CF serial card to work! Pocket DOS was able to redirect my COM 4 port (CF slot) to COM 1 which DOS will recognize. My question now, is it possible to redirect the ports in the other DOS emulators? Pocket DOS is cool but you can’t see the whole screen without making the letters so small and distorted that you can’t read it. pDOSBox seems to work better for my project.

When was that game made? If it was before 1992 it probably work. I seen another post where someone was trying to play Oregon Trail using Pocket DOS. I remember playing that game many years ago and thought I would give it a try in pDOSBox. The program runs but I couldn't get the "pointer" to click on Travel the Trail and the screen was so small when it went to the hall of fame I couldn't read it. Somehow they set up some gaming controls but I have yet to figure them out. Give it a try and see what happens.

Sorry, can't help you there as I have WM2003SE, but I don't see why not.
