Hi, i am a PDA newbie. I purchase a Axim x51v 624mhz (256 ROM, 64 RAM)recently. I discovered that the program memory are automatically decrease to number of MB (yesterday left 28.xxmb, now, after stop all the application, release to 18.xx mb), how to increase the memory and how to free the resources?
Meanwhile, how to fully shutdown? Just press the power button?
I found a software - psShutXP, which version are suitable to me? XScale or VGA?
Memory: As far as adjusting\allocating memory you cant. Power Off: Tap start, settings, system tab, power, power button tab. Then choose the option "Full power off". So now when you press and hold the power button it will do a true power off.
Pressing the power button will put it into suspend\sleep mode.
Hi,
I follow your steps, when i turn off, after 2 minutes, i turn on again, why the screen appear so immediately?
Meanwhile, what is the different between XScale and VGA version?
Thank you.

Arm and Xscale are processors. VGA is your display. A VGA display has a resolution of 480x640 while QVGA has a resolution of 240x320.
If your Axim is turning on by itself, then there might be an alarm or reminder turning on the Axim. Or it could be ActiveSync. See this page for instructions to keep ActiveSync from turning on your Axim.
Thanks for your URL, i follow the instructions already... :)
Afterward, i turn on again, the screen appear immediately once again, not same as when i soft restart, it appear dell logo screen first..

Or you could get the awsome upgrade from pocketpctechs that upgrades to 128 mb of ram. I'm loveing it! I can litereally have everything open plus quake and i don't run out of memory :-P

This upgrade sounds so good...can you tell me a little more about it?
I am very curious to hear about battery life with this upgrade. Do you take a big hit on battery life?
Also, have you considered warranty issues? I still have over two years on my "replace if squashed contract". I wonder what the options are in such a case if I need to activate the warranty contract? I am sure that Dell will take any oppportunity to get out of their service contract and continue their ongoing nastiness to their customers. Do you have plans in the event that you need to send the thing in for service to Dell?
This brings up the next question. Do the guys doing the upgrade offer any sort of warranty?
Thanks! I am incredibly envious of your super-Axim. You just better watch out for Kryptonite! LOL.
To free ram: Even doing a soft reset doesn't do everything. Search this forum for a little (1.4KB) program called Hibernate. Run it anytime your Axim is feeling sluggish and all memory-hogging programs are stopped, as well as after every soft reset. It won't show anything when it runs, just somewhere between 0.5 and 2MB of RAM will be freed up.
To full power off: Go to Settings -> System -> Power -> Power Button. Select the radio button next to Full Power Off. Click the X. Now, if you hold down the power button it will full power off. If you just press it, it'll still go into shallow sleep.

hey do you still have that file, pocketpc no longer has that RAM upgrade, and my program needs 128 all i got is 64
thanks
I had it done to mine in December and it has been great. They were fast and took good care of my PPC.

I have to second that. I've done the same to my PDA, and I haven't worried once about how much memory I have. It was well worth the money. I actually made a thread discussing what the RAM upgrade does the device. Let's say it speeds it up a lot!
You can also set the power button to fully shutdown the device in the settings. I typically never shutdown my device, but sometimes there's a use for it.
Just my thoughts. And by the way, to this same day, I still use X-Button although I have plenty of memory... :)
