VGA screen: How man colours?

or color for you yanks ;) BUT, I was wondering how many colours are available on the VGA screen on the x51v so I can work with this when creating background images for it. When I put any of my photos from sunsets etc on there it will have shades of colours and its not even.

Thanks!

3 - red, green and blue ;)

Seriously, TFTs can have between 3 and 12 bits of resolution per colour, giving between 512 and billions of colours, the graphics chip / driver / opsystem may or may not make good use them.

I don't know what the Axim's display resolution is exactly, but it does a pretty good job of displaying pictures, blue skys and fluffy clouds are free of obvious banding, blacks and dark browns are well differenciated (I looking at a photo of a brown labrador puppy). The viewing angle is a little restricted +/- 20 deg I suppose, but that's hardly a problem (it is a one-person-at-a-time screen)

I first noticed the color banding on my first VGA PDA, the X50v. After a while you kinda just get use to it

It is apparent though even when you soft reset and that dell logo comes on.
