Problem formating 4GB SD Card

I bought a 4GB A-DATA SD card for my Axim X50. I have tried to format the card on my computer, but, I only get 1GB. Can someone tell me how can I format and see all the 4GB?

How are you "plugging" the card into your computer - some card readers have trouble with larger SD cards - mine throws a major fit if I plug in a 4GB SD but doesn't bat an eyelid at an 8GB CF, it's something to do with the firmware.

I use an external USB Lexar card reader, see link:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...onics&v=glance

and I have no issues - I think the card reader sees the card but using a device like the Lexar the PC thinks it is looking at an external drive, and I generally have no problems with card size, formatting, moving files etc.

Not sure if this will help but hope it offers some.

Yep.. it's probably your card reader.

Yes, you did. Now you have a problem. Your axim detects the card as 1 GB Card too.

At first, you need a HexEditor. http://www.sweetscape.com/010editor/

Put your card in the cardreader and run the Programm.

Choose "Open Drive" from the Menu and select the Physical Drive of your SD-Card.

Choose "Edit" -> "Select Range" from menu.

Start Address: 0
Size: 512

Press OK

Select "Edit" -> "Fill Bytes" from menu

Start Address: 0
Size: 512
Hex: 0
Decimal: 0

Press OK

Save.

Remove the SD-Card from the CardReader and put it in your Axim.

The Axim should ask you to format the new card. Press the Yes-Button and everything should work fine.

I've done the same mistake and this works great for me.

Remember that you can't use the SD-Card with your CardReader until you do a Firmware Update! Or just buy a new one with SD-Card 2.0 support.

No you don't need any software if you formated it properly which I can't at the moment.

Ok, I tried something different. I tried clicking "save as" and saved to H: (my drive for my SD card).... I have no idea what I'm doing. But it spent 3 hours saving, and then at the end it said "error" because it ran out of space on the card. I think I'm just gonna send this card back.... I'll never have 4 GB for my mp3's on my Axim :(

I've been having pretty much this same issue. My deal is, my computer recognizes the 4gb card as a 4gb card, and will allow me to fill the card up with whatever I want. However, I plug it into my axim, and it's my axim that won't let me see more than a little less than a gig. I've tried your method, but my axim doesn't ask me to format the card. Am I doing something wrong? Can you provide a little more detail?
