Free WiFi & BT Switch Utility

Hi!

I would like to introduce a small utility developed as a replacement and enhancement of the wireless power button applet available in Axim x50 and x51.

Some of you already know it, as it's been developed for Widcomm project and it's included in version 0.5 of the drivers. Now, it's been enhanced to support:

- Axim X51* WM5 (MS and Widcomm BT stacks)
- Axim X50* WM5 (MS and Widcomm BT stacks)
- Axim X50* WM2003 (Widcomm BT stack)

The CAB installer assigns automatically this utility to the wireless power hardware button. The CAB includes a configuration tool (WirelessPower Config) which can be used to change the utility's behavior and its look & feel.

The main functionalities are:

- Configurable GUI (indicators shown, their colors, whether the icons show the desired state of both radios or not, cyclic or direct switching mode, ...)

- Configurable Device capabilities (the device has builtin BT and WiFi or only one of them)

- Tap based control.

- WirelessPower Config tool to setup the behavior.

It can be downloaded from here

EDIT 07/03/2006 06:13 GMT
The first cab I uploaded was corrupted. It should work OK now.

EDIT 07/03/2006 20:25 GMT
It should but it didn't. It's OK now.

I've attached some screenshots.

Comments and suggestions are welcome :)

UPDATE 09/14/2006:

I've updated the utility (V 1.01). The link above already points to the right package.

Changes are:
- CAB update
- New icon in system tray to launch the utility from today screen

Problems people were experiencing when trying to assign the correct shortcut to a hardware button are solved now.

Please uninstall any previous version before installing this one.

Looks nice, but I get an "installation unsuccessful" notice every time I try installing from my device.

Yeah I'd like to be able to run this as well (x50v 2003se, ROM AO5). It seems to install just fine, but when I check "programs" it's just a blank icon and when I click on it I get the "not a valid win32 application". Oh by the way it also remapped my wireless power button to < context menu >. Is this a RAM only install?

That's wierd. Maybe it is a new release or something. I've had this program for some time now, being a follower of the Widcomm stack. From my experience, the program HAS to be installed in BIS because it installs reg keys and stuff I believe.

Maybe its a new revision. The version I had installs to BIS and puts the config utility into the Programs menu. It is really nice and customizable. I took out those bars and just have the icons. I have mine so that there is two icons which are clickable and greyed out when disabled. Its really nice and easy... especially when your driving on the road and don't have a stylus. Just tap it with your thumb or index finger. What alot of us have done is moved the program outta "programs" and into the Settings folder.

Once installed you might have to either restart. I know you have to manually go into Settings--Buttons, and change it from the old program to the new one.

I have a successful install if this doesn't get resolved. PM me if it doesn't... which I know it will.

Again, its prolly just a wierd revision.

My opinion is, on an X51[v], just get the whole Widcomm stack. There are a ton of good reasons to do it, and only one reason not to - a small amount of risk.

I agree. Though now they have the Widcomm down to a cab installer with an Uninstaller that puts the MS driver back in there if you don't like it.

So there is no risk anymore.

Indeed. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it (I uninstalled hoping to fix my A2DP issues with the Tornado hack, but it was MUCH worse, so I reinstalled). Everything worked fine at both stages.

I've been using this on my x51v for a long time now. It's just amazing compare to the built-in wireless utility.

Thank you for EVERYTHING!!

The cab was somehow corrupted. I'm terribly sorry. It should work OK now.

multiple device connections using headset and audio gateway

first i would just like to say thank you (especially mikelspikel and crew your names are all over the widcomm project on a couple different sites) for stepping up an fixing dells mistake. Next im new to posting (usually just read and do) so if i put this in the wrong place, sorry. OK my problem is this i have poor cell reception in my basement, so i figured i could leave the phone upstairs (samsung ah950, crippled by verizon worse than dell did on the 51v only headset and audio gateway are available, yes even with howardforums assitance) bluetooth it to my 51v, BT the 51v to my computer (via dongle), then BT my motorolla hs820 to my computer and answer calls. you may ask why this way because basically reception fades in and out or i have the headset disconnect from the phone. I have connected the phone to the computer just fine but when i try with my 51v (rom a06, new 0.5 widcomm stack, even tried the tornado a2dp hack) it says no usable services, any suggestions? firebombing verizon is not an option unfortunately so anything will help....
