Has anyone checked to see if you still get the white screen if you put the Axim in the cradle when it's on standby after this update?

Just make a backup with [s]both[/s] all of them (+ activesync backup). The internal and AS should work, not sure of SB.

Yea I gotta wait until I go home to do this thing. Sucky. Man what a good day.
Good thing is that I'm all caught up at home chores and will have a chance to do this tonight. Bad thing is that I just installed a BUNCH of games and such. Its worth getting a speed increase though.

look at the bright side. there's 15000 other people trying this thing first, finding all the quirks. in a few hours, the rest of us will be good to go.
thanks everyone for testing the heck out of it - i'd be right there with ya if i had my dock

Axim X51v system update utility with A12 English ROM image for Windows Mobile Version 5.0. This update can be applied to Axim X51v 624MHz only.
http://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/R129272.EXE
The non 'v' version : http://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/R129273.EXE
1. Windows Mobile V5.0 Adaptation Kit Update 2.3.1 enhancement.
2. Audio driver change (headset output gain adjustment) due to French audio regulation
3. Fix system can't wake up with CF card installed.
4. Enhance CF I/O card performance.
5. Fix CF serial modem port Open/Close issue.
6. Support Activesync serial connection switcher.
edit: I jus installed it on my A51v (hardware A02, rom A08)
- the first thing i noticed is the performance.. the OS seems to react faster than normal.
- the battery icon (as A11 also had)
- memory usage is the same
- there is a new icon, 'USB to PC' in the connections setting (not sure yet what it does)
- the system keeps responding fast while docked.
- copying over the usb connection is a lot faster. (1.6mb /sec)
- cannot find any bt improvements but cant test A2DP cause i dont have any hardware. The widcomm stack still works though.

Damn, system performs like it has a 612 mhz processor, not a 1mhz. In other words, it feels like it works without registry hacks.. Wonder if the hacks are even valid anymore... also enjoying ym 128 mb of ram. Thanks for the catch!:approve:

Can anyone tell me what the real advantage to this upgrade is? Seems like a whole lot of work to restore all of your programs and settings after a hard reset for a list of fixes that don't affect me. I would assume that most of the performance gains that folks are seeing are because of the hard re-set/clean install and not anything that I see in the list of improvements for this upgrade. I'm not opposed to upgrading if there is anything compelling, but I just don't see it here...

thanks for the update, just done the update myself.
Everything went fine :)
Ive also noticed a speed increase of the OS in general (menu etc..)
Appreciate the battery being displayed again, saves having to keep going back to the today screen.
File transfers over USB seem to be improved also.
I only use bluetooth to transfer data between devices, so i can't really comment on any changes, the speed seems the same.
Had a problem restoring data from a backup, the back utility stated that the previous backup was done for WM2003, so it could only restore my documents and not application settings etc..
so far so good.

No way, it is realy a lot faster. Just backup, upgrade, restore and youre pda is realy a lot faster.
The lack of improvements ? The AKU2.3.1 update has more than 350 small updates in the os since AKU1.2.1 so you can see it as a WM5 OS update (kinda seccond edition)

WiFi White Screen
if someone would be so kind:D ....
i'm anxious to know if:
-turn the WiFi on
-let the axim time out to suspend (3mins or whatever you have it set to)
-let it sit in suspend for a few minutes
-place it in the cradle, as is (cradle being plugged into a/c and usb)
does it white screen?!?
thanks again:approve:
