Since a few users have problems with the first hard reset (i have to admit, it's a bit unclear) so a 'small' walkthrough:
Make backups.. the more the better (with several tools). For myselve, i rather reinstall all with the latest versions. I used the internal backup util. That one only works for pim data (ignore the wm2003 error) a full restore resulted in a non booting device. At least sync your data and copy the files from my documents.
- Before beginning, hard reset your device (press the reset and power button simultaniously for about 2 secconds. Go the the 'align screen and copy/paste steps' This step is not necessary it makes sure no running application can intervene the update process.
- If you see the today cradle your pda, connect it as guest through activesync (4.1+)
- Start the downloaded executable. It wil unpack and start itself through a local html page. Hit the install now button and continue to execute.
- The first time it updates the 'update' tool and afther that (quick) update it askes you on the PDA screen to hard reset.
This one is a bit tricky cause after you reset you'll see that the 'reset or cancel' screen only flashes by without asking for manual input. To make sure this step goes well, it's best to keep the PDA cradled while performing the hard reset.
- If it boots again (it seems it boots like normal, without the align screen etc.) the dell update tool wil ask you to continue.
- The tool writes the new rom to your PDA, after that one it writes the rom from the internal RAM (in the PDA) to ROM and after that it will ask you again to perform a hard reset.
- After this reset you'll get the normal align screen etc, and youre update is finished.
edit: I jus installed it on my A51v (hardware A02, rom A08)
- the first thing i noticed is the performance.. the OS seems to react faster than normal.
- the battery icon where the time was (as A11 also had) (read
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/...28/586453.aspx for how to change)
- memory usage is the same
- there is a new icon, 'USB to PC' in the connections setting (not sure yet what it does)
- the system keeps responding fast while docked.
- copying over the usb connection is a lot faster. (1.6mb /sec)
- cannot find any bt improvements but cant test A2DP cause i dont have any hardware. The widcomm stack still works though.
- the lcd tearing fix for the 2700g works also (no more flickering watching movies).
- installed all of my app's, no problems. The start/load times decreased (a lot !) they also respond faster (like wm2003)
