A12 ROM Upgrade causes BSOD at about 80%

Hi,

I first thought it was just coincidence that my Windows XP SP2 had a blue screen of death while first upgrade try with the A12, but after reading the New A12 Rom for X51(v) I noticed several others having the same experience.

:) Will

On a Dell PC BTW ;-)

I had multiple BSOD with my desktop system running RAID across two drives.

After a coronary or two, I eventually did the upgrade to A12 via my wife's laptop, without problems.

I seem to rember having the same issue with a number of recent DELL ROM upgrades, not just A12.

Cheers

Are you absolutely sure you didn't use any kind of
1. USB hub or
2. USB extender?

I've also encountered BSOD's upon upgrading while using these.

Cradle directly connected to USB on the motherboard (Intel D865GBF).
Second try cradle connected directly to my Laptop Medion 95500.

I here wanted to do a hard reset on my Axim before upgrading but was unable to do so. Instead I manually uninstalled every peace of software I had on the Axim and then - Third try again connected to my workstation I succeded.

Think the upgrade program stinks - but the upgrade itself has some nice features - the axim looses power like ¤#&$ - waiting for next generation now - might go back to A06 if I cannot get rid of the power issue.

And to make it clear - yes I have tried every single trick to solve the power issue. Next and last before the downgrade is to hard reset - test if the power drain is still a problem - if not install one program each day until the battery drain shows up again. I'l post it of course if I find something faintly looking like a solution.

:) Will

No BSOD here,,, All went very smoothly via the cradle.
I quite honestly couldnt be happier with the A12 rom update, axim is running like an athlete at the moment,,
No problems with battery drain or anything.
This is how the axim was supposed to run,, fast and flawless.
