wow 6 questions about what is the use of this A06 to A12 ROM update and no definite answer 6 pages later.

I just bought the x51v with A06 ROM and I'm looking for valid patches to make the device up to date. So what does this update really do? How did you come up with this update? Did it came from dell oficially? Can anyone list the known issues with a A06 ROM that was fixed with A12 ROM?

purpose of the thread wasn't really to discuss the purpose of the patch, just the validity of the process. see: disclaimer. IMO, i'd never run w/o the patch, MUCH faster. stable too, tho not perfecct

For those wondering what exactly the A12 upgrade fixes, here ya go:

Fixes and Enhancements
1. Windows Mobile V5.0 Adaptation Kit Update 2.3.1 enhancement.
2. Audio driver change (headset output gain adjustment) due to French audio regulation
3. Fix system can't wake up with CF card installed.
4. Enhance CF I/O card performance.
5. Fix CF serial modem port Open/Close issue.
6. Support Activesync serial connection switcher.

Oh and I can CONFIRM that the upgrade works on ActiveSync 4.5 (Build 5096).

Man, I've been holding off for so long but maybe. just maybe the time has come.
However I don't feel my Ax is running slowly but who knows? I'm curious to know what kind of boot times are people seeing with A12 (Power on boot).

I'm about 90 seconds from button push to "full desktop" with about 4 scheduling/managing progs booting at start up. Once booted things run pretty smoothly, wifi, BT included.

I really hate the idea of all those reinstalls esp since I recently did that with my PC, as well as too many friends PCs.

This stuff all sounds scary.

I don't know if this is too off-topic, but if I got a new PC running Vista, would my Axim work when attached to it? It's about a year old and ROM version A06. It runs fine as it is, and I don't want to risk buggering it all up with "upgrades" unless it's essential.

I just bought an X51V off ebay, it has ROM A01 (08250500). Should I upgrade to A12 and, how do I do it?

:approve: Thanks, benace, for the detailed info.:approve: I'm sure this sticky will continue to get mileage. I just got my A06 X51v in the mail yesterday from an Ebayer and it is now a happy A12 device. I figured a fresh flash before loaded down with data was the best way to go.

Now more searches to get the time back on the start bar.

Hm. I ebayed my device a few weeks ago, have been running A06 for a while, and my Odyssey Client is borked, so I figured I'd A12 the device while I'm already hard resetting it.

Question: Does the A12 ROM update include the two patches listed on Dell's website? I don't think it does. The second part of that question is this: Are those two patches compatible with A12? I hope so. Any testimony would be nice before I go through with this, thanks!
