A06>A12 Step-by-Step

I have a x51v with A06 and want to goto A12.
I am running Vista Ultimate.
My problem is this. When using the Step by Step instructions I get as far as Click on Install Now in IE windows (I am not using IE but that should not make a difference) after clicking on install now I get a message that says

"Connect your device to a computer using a sync cable or cradle before running the system update. Ensure the ActiveSync is installed on the computer and that the ActiveSync connection is successful.

Now Vista uses Windows Mobile Device Center not ActiveSync.

Do I have to use Windows XP and ActiveSync to do the upgrade?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just a short answer to this, I think you best bet is to find an XP computer to do the upgrade, from memory I don't think Vista understands what is going on.

Hi,
I just completed the ROM upgrade on my x51v and thanks to all who provided instructions and help.
The update was success but not without a few glitches that needed to be overcome.
I followed the instructions given here but in the middle of the upgrade my computer reset itself!
Thankfully, my x51v simply remained at A01.
I tried it again with the same result. I then pulled all my usb connections leaving only the cradle on a usb cable, no hub or other notoriously problem devices like web cams, etc.
After that, the installation ran just fine and I now have A12 installed.
The only other caution I'd have is to not bother with trying to install a back up as so many here have stated. I tried it but ended up doing a hard reset and loading my programs again.
Just figure on the time to load them and do it.
Well thats about it, I've upgraded the ROM and swapped out the bluetooth stack and now the axim runs like it should have from new.

Hi,

I just upgraded my x51v to A12, following the sticky step-by-step, and everything went fine.

But, I noticed that after the upgrade, when I go to Programs, I cannot find an icon for File Explorer.

I was able to add File Explorer to the menu using Settings->Menu, but it's not showing up under Programs.

Is this normal for A12?

Good morning,

I need some help Flashing from WM5 to WM 6.

I read all the availible Forums. Watched the U-Tube Instructions. But I am missing something. When flashing from WM5 to WM 6 the X51V progresses to the point where the display reads "SD Image Update A10_G3" and I also have the flash file highlighted on the screen. Now the problem;

Performing the double press of the center Navigator button does nothing. Stays lockup at that spot for at least one hour. (The longest I waited before I perform a Hard rest to try again.)

I have re-installed MS Windows V5 - ROM Version A12. I have tried Football's files and two of Lenny's files Versions 10 & 11. I have reformated my 1 GB SD card each time (FAT32). I performed this function many times. I can always do a hard reset to get back the operating system again.

Of interest, I can not get the Diagnostic program to run. When trying to run the Diagnostic program, I get to the instruction to press the Inbox button then after a short while the display is back to a normal operating mode.

Any suggestions as to what I can do next? Is there a way to update the ROM to WM6.x using another NON SD Flash method such as the Sync method?
