Replacing an x50v with an x51 is a downgrade in many respects.

The following are the only two positives that come to mind with this trade:
Battery Life
Mass

I have an X51 & love it! Going from X50v to X51, I think you will lose VGA. I have never had it, so I don't know what I am missing :)

You'll miss the built-in Wi-fi, speedy processor, graphic chip, and the wonderful VGA screen.

Indeed, a very bad idea. You'll want to send it back about 2 hours (probably less) after you get it. Once you have VGA, you can't go back to QVGA.

I will cast my vote with everyone else.. its a downgrade. If you want an x51v without spending an arm and a leg find a used one. The classifieds are great for that. :) I currently have an x51v with no battery or dock that I'm asking $200 for. I'm not sure about your budget so I don;t know what else to suggest.

Unless the X50v is dead then I'm afraid I'd agree with everyone else, there are too few differences between the 50 and 51 series for it to be considered an upgrade and loosing the VGA screen would kill me as I love the clarity. Sure the persistant memory is useful, but surely the same (or similar) can be achieved using an SD card?

software-wise it's a slight upgrade, hardware-wise a huge downgrade. you lose vga, wifi, 2700g, 624mhz cpu, etc.

Not a really big loss here, you won't be able to play the 8 or so games that support it..

And no hardware support for navsat, tomtom_gl and don't forget tcpmp.
Don't think it's only used for games.
