I will cast my vote with everyone else.. its a downgrade. If you want an x51v without spending an arm and a leg find a used one. The classifieds are great for that. :) I currently have an x51v with no battery or dock that I'm asking $200 for. I'm not sure about your budget so I don;t know what else to suggest.
Unless the X50v is dead then I'm afraid I'd agree with everyone else, there are too few differences between the 50 and 51 series for it to be considered an upgrade and loosing the VGA screen would kill me as I love the clarity. Sure the persistant memory is useful, but surely the same (or similar) can be achieved using an SD card?
