Persistant memory questions?

I know that there is a differnce bewteen nor and nard ram, and I've seen some posting on it, but if PALMS have had persistant memory for years, does that menat they had nard ram all this time?? I was under the impression that this was a new devolpment. Could someone set me straight on this please. Thanks.

My goodness. 24 hours, numerous readings, and no one will post an answer? Is the question TOO simple, am I that naive, or is it no one knows the answer....a little feedback here please.

There's no such thing as "nard ram," unless you mean being kicked in the groin. Perhaps you mean NAND? And Palms have only had persistent memory for about 18 months. Flash memory (which encompasses both NOR and NAND memory types) isn't exactly new--it's been is use for many, many years, and even some devices like Windows Mobile Smartphones have had it as primary storage going back to 2002. The main thing which is new is the use of flash as main storage, which wasn't done by PPCs and Palms until recently, for reasons of cost, performance, and engineering.

There is a good summary of memory usage at the Windows Mobile team blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/...19/453784.aspx

You mean NOR and NAND ROM. Your knowledge of technical terms is clearly lacking. But NAND doesn't have the filesystem issues of NOR, and is cheaper to make in large capacities. Go on Wikipedia for more info. As for persistent memory, the point is that nothing is actually stored in the volatile RAM. Everything is stored in the non-volatile ROM.
