I want to buy one of these: x50v or x51 (entry lever, which means: the slowest processor416mhz) and want to know the pros & cons. I know that this should have been discussed thounsands of times before, but I want to be sure that I'm not going to make a mistake. I would use the ppc most to read dictionaries, pdf files and write (and surf web pages off-line). This is what I have till know:
x50v:
- faster processor, I wonder if the difference is that big between this processor and the x51's since you don't need it working 100% all the time.
- better battery life (that's what I've heard, and I don't know why)
- cheaper
x51:
- more reliable OS (the general opinion is that it's not worth updating the x50v: it gets slower and buggy)
- don't loose information if the battery runs out
As you can see it's not as if there were so much difference, but I wanted to ask anyway. Waiting for a piece of advice, Thanks.
For readin dictionary I would go with the X50V as teh VGA screen will make the readin more pleasant and less fatigue for you eyes. WM2003SE is a fine OS.

I have an x50v and love it. But the price of an x51v and an x50v are about the same from what I understand. So why not go for the x51v (with A12 rom upgrade)?

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

But the x51 has a vga screen too, the main differences would be the processor (faster in the x50v, slower in the x51) and the OS (less reliable in the x50v, more reliable in the x51).
The processor speed on the x50v and x51v is exactly the same: 624mhz. My point is why get an entry level x51? The x51v gives you comparable hardware to the x50v but with the "newer" OS.

Only the X51v has the VGA screen. The entry level X51's do not, and after having a VGA screen, I wouldn't go back.

He means x50v compared to the x51. Probably because the low x51 is about the same price as the x50v with VGA etc.
Although, I thought they were rougly the same price (the 2 high end models), I'd try and get atleast mid x51 if you can because you will have wifi which I don't think the entry level does. But I would get the x50v over x51 just because of the VGA screen. You should see the difference before you make a decision as the screen is really so much better.
I just hate being price pointed to death. If the x50v would be better than the cheepest posible x51 configuration. Vga, bluetooth, wireless on the V and not on the no vee right, on top of processor speed. If you want to save money the trailing edge is always the place to be.
don't get x50's. It's been shown in various reviews that have half the battery life and they will NOT run wm5 without being absolutely unusable. If you're going to buy any dell pda, you have to buy the x51v or you WILL regret it. There's also no reason to get anything other than an x51v because you can get it for around $320 if you know where to look.
