Does anyone know if there is a program out there that will boost the range of my wi-fi signal?? I'm not really sure whether this is even possible, but I thought I would ask. Essentially, there is a wi-fi hotspot not far from my office that I would like to be able to access, but it is just a little too far for my Axim. I'm just trying to figure out if there is a way to boost the signal so I can link up.
the only probably thing u can do it's to install a duplicator as close to the signal... if it catches the signal it will boost it to your axim. You can check D-Link's website for cheap devices.
for axim you can not connect any antenna or something like signal booster, public HS are limited design and they guarantee good signal only in this range there they are planed, so if you able to catch that signal outside service provider designed area you are lucky, try to go to this HS area there wifi signal for your axim is good and go away from HS and monitor your axim wifi signal. And you will know how strong it can be, as i know public HS provide best wifi signal mostly for good wifi card with antennas or signal booster, sadly but for most mobile devices, pda, smartphones you can not get such good signal as you can get with laptop or PC with good wifi card. but You can definately normaly use your mobile device for for surfing web in Public HS without any problems. that is my opinion
I have owned numerous PPC's over the years and the Dell x51v is the best of the batch. The only draw back for me is the wifi radio and the engineering design of the internal antenna. The unit works ok but no comparison to the HP 5555 or even the X30.
Maybe in the future? Dell or some software brain can find a way to increase the wifi capabilites of this excellent unit. I would more than glad to pay for a software patch/cf-wifi card or anything that would make an improvement.
I had a x3i with a dlink CF card and I am getting *much* better results with my x51v than I ever did with my old PPC, for what it's worth.
Of course, I was and still not a big fan of this company and they may be the ones that have the most to do with it. I have had very bad luck with everything I've purchased from d-link, but that's just one man's experience.
I do notice a reception boost if I remove PDA from Rhino-Skin case. I too would like to find a way to boost pda wifi reception.
